I wanted to share some feedback about the support we’ve received from Laura Care’s so far
For a long time, I struggled with guilt about my mum being in a care home. The staff there are genuinely kind and go above and beyond—they take excellent care of her needs. However, despite their dedication, my mum often felt like she was losing her independence. She’s always been very social, someone who loves going out for coffee, shopping, and having a chat. Being mostly in the lounge during the day, even with activities, left her feeling quite institutionalised.
She would often ask me to take her out—shopping, for coffee, just to browse—and I found it difficult to keep up alongside work. It became emotionally draining, as every visit was overshadowed by guilt about when I could next take her out again.
Choosing Laura Care’s wasn’t an easy decision. I had concerns about her safety, whether someone would truly understand her needs, and whether they’d have the patience to support her in the way she enjoys—taking her time, browsing shops, sitting for coffee, and having a laugh.
But from the very first visit, everything changed. Lulu took my mum out shopping, and the difference it made was incredible. They laughed their way around TK Maxx, trying on clothes, chatting, and enjoying each other’s company. They stopped for coffee and cake, and my mum came back happily exhausted.
The reason I felt compelled to write this feedback today is because I was sitting at my desk, once again feeling that familiar guilt—and then Lulu sent me a beautiful video of her and my mum sitting in the sunshine, enjoying a lovely afternoon together. In that moment, I realised just how much this service has changed things for both of us.
Since the first trip my mums bern out again and continues to look forward to these trips. Knowing that she can regain some independence—going shopping, getting out and about, and doing the things she loves—has lifted a huge weight off my shoulders.
The positive impact on her has been remarkable. She’s happier, more confident, more chatty, and more engaged. Even my children noticed over Easter how much better she seems—her mobility has improved, her skin looks healthier, and her overall wellbeing has lifted.
For anyone who feels the same guilt I did—trying to balance work and caring for a loved one—I can’t recommend Laura Care’s highly enough. Their service has truly made a meaningful difference to both my mum’s quality of life and my own peace of mind.
