The Neonatal Engagement Lead role will work a minimum of two days per week focused on Airedale NHS Foundation Hospital Trust and a minimum of two days per week focused on Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This could be one person operating across both hospitals, or two people, each focused on a single hospital but working closely, sharing learning and insight. Earlier this year, we visited the antenatal clinics at Pinderfields, Pontefract and Dewsbury hospitals to chat to you about your experiences of being pregnant with diabetes. Here's what you told us:

- Many told us it felt like choice was taken away because you are diabetic.
- Conflicting advice from clinicians made you feel worried.
- Appointments can feel rushed, which made it hard to talk about any worries or questions.
- The waiting room environment wasn't always comfortable, and travelling to hospital for frequent appointments was challenging.
- It made a difference when staff were kind and supportive.

Yesterday we met with staff to share this feedback and talk about these opportunities for improvement.

If you met Stacey and chatted to her while you were waiting for your appointment - thank you! Your voice will make a difference.

Get in touch if you'd like to know more about how you can contribute to future work.

In October 2023, Katie Robinson and her husband Jamie from Cleckheaton faced the heartbreaking loss of their daughter, Freya, who was stillborn. As they honour Freya’s second birthday, they have made the heartfelt decision to fundraise for an Abi Cooling Cot, which they will generously donate to Pinderfields Hospital.

Katie shared: "Thanks to a previously donated cooling cot, we were able to spend three precious days with Freya in hospital. That time meant the world to us and inspired us to take action. We’d now like to give more families the opportunity to have precious time with their angels.”

The Abi Cooling Cot is a specially designed refrigerated unit that allows families to spend more time with their baby than would otherwise be possible. This time can be vital in helping parents bond, say goodbye, and begin to process their grief.

Do you want to be involved in improving maternity care locally in Wakefield and North Kirklees? If so, we'd love you to come along to our next event, where we will launch our latest report about feedback from our recent visit to Pinderfields Hospital.

You might be a parent, pregnant now, work in maternity or a related field, or simply have a genuine interest in how maternity care could be better.

Our last event of 2025 will be taking place on Tuesday 25th November in Wakefield, from 10-12noon, bringing people together with maternity staff to talk honestly about what works, what doesn’t, and what needs to change. You are welcome to bring your children along with you, and refreshments will be served. We can also reimburse travel expenses if receipts are provided.

Your perspective matters, and it leads to real service improvement and change.
If you’d like to attend, send us a message for venue & access details.
We’d love to see you there 💜

💉 We offer both drop-in and bookable sessions for Pertussis, RSV, and Flu vaccinations in our hospital antenatal clinics (Flu is available now until March).

Getting vaccinated during pregnancy is a safe and effective way to protect both you and your baby from serious illness. Vaccines such as Pertussis (whooping cough) and RSV provide your baby with vital protection during their first weeks of life, when they are most vulnerable.

✅ To book an appointment, please speak to your community midwife or drop in at one of the clinics listed below.
