I can only speak from my own experience of this journey.

My story of the menopause ...................

Premenopause - Regular periods, no issues.

Perimenopause - Hello what is going on! I have to say, it crept up on me, didn't see it coming.
Hubby noticed i was getting moody with everything. He did actually point that out at one stage, and asked me if i was going through the menopause. I mean, of course he never said it again...........i did not react well to that comment.
BUT........it did make me question my symptoms at that point.

I was getting headaches, putting on weight, my skin felt dry and i could feel it was changing. My mood, yes well that was erratic to say the least. My body would ache, bad back, i felt heavy and tired all the time. My b***s were not as firm as they had been for sure!

Then the periods starting to change, they would slowly become less, and when i did get them they were heavy.
My skin became bad, like when i was a teenager. Spots came as well. Everything i used on my skin made me itch. My skin was so sensitive.
Then we went into the hot flushes stage - they were fun! not........ They would come from deep inside you, and rise up your body like a furnace. Standing outside in winter when having a hot flush was lovely.
Being indoors in winter when the heating was on, was awful.
They would come at the worst times, in work, with clients, out with friends. My face would go pink, i would have to stop what i was doing, and then as quick as it came, it went again. Well after five minutes.
This lasted for about four years......yes, that is right. The symptoms of the menopause last that long. Of course it is different for everyone.
My mum swears she had no symptoms. She told me that one day, when i was stood there boiling hot from a hot flush. I was like "great, good for you". I had no sense of humour around that time, that had gone out the window.. lol.

Then the brain fog came....... forgetting passwords, pin numbers, how to spell simple things, how to log in at work, what i ate last night, what i walked into a room to do.....just everything really.

You sit there, and just cannot remember what it was you wanted to do, how you do it, nothing....... Someone can stand there and explain something to you and their mouth is moving, but you have no clue what they are saying. It just would not register......That was tough for me.

Then i got to the post menopause stage - no periods for three years now. My ovaries have shrivelled up and no more producing eggs. I am officially an older woman.

Am i happy about this!? YES!

I have never been happier. I am more focused, I do not care what anyone else thinks. I do not feel the need to 'fit in', I have many years of just doing what i want, when i want. I am a grandma and an awesome mum, but I'm also back to finding me and what i want out of life.
It is an amazing age to be. 55 years old and life is good.

Do i miss being the younger me, no............
The menopause is a celebration, as a women you have been through so much already. Now is the time to celebrate who you are.
So look at the menopause as a good thing.

For you have the rest of your life ahead of you, and no monthly periods to clear up YAY!

Life is good for us older ladies, celebrate it, enjoy it and do what you want to do.

much love
Andrea

What do you use on your skin every day!? Now, im not one to have been a big wearer of make up over the years, and i always used Clarins when i was younger to clean my face.

We don't always think about what we are putting on our skin, yes, we think more about what we ingest, but we should be looking at what we use with everything, and this is something i am focused on right now.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The following is from Google, not my writing, but an interesting read.
In the UK, several cosmetic and skincare products contain concerning chemicals, including PFAS ("forever chemicals") in makeup, prohibited skin-lightening creams with mercury or hydroquinone, and aerosol products (dry shampoos/sunscreens) containing trace benzene. Common culprits include waterproof mascaras, long-lasting lipsticks, and certain anti-ageing creams.
Based on findings from Trading Standards and BBC investigations, here are the main product categories and chemicals to be aware of:
Makeup (PFAS): Products often contain poly- and perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) to improve durability and water resistance. Brands highlighted include Urban Decay, Revolution, and Inglot.
Skin Lightening Creams (Banned Substances): Some products found online or in smaller shops contain prohibited, high levels of hydroquinone or mercury, which can cause skin damage, rashes, and toxic effects.
Aerosol Products (Benzene): Dry shampoos, conditioners, and some sunscreens have been recalled due to traces of benzene. Brands included Dove, TRESemmé, and others.
UV Gel Nails (Acrylates): Products containing HEMA (2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) can cause severe allergies.
Facial Creams (Suspected EDCs): Some face creams (e.g., from brands like Elizabeth Arden, Clinique, Garnier) have been flagged for containing endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs).
Key Chemicals to Watch For:
PFAS: Listed as PTFE, perfluorooctyl triethoxysilane, or similar, often in foundations and eye makeup.
Formaldehyde-releasers: Such as quaternium-15 and DMDM hydantoin in shampoos and lotions.
Parabens: Preservatives that may cause skin irritation.
Lilial: Also known as butylphenyl methylpropional, which is banned in the UK.
Andrea Watson
I like to change this write up, as i grow and change on my journey;
I am on a journey to heal myself.
We grow up in a society, where we are told and taught that we need to behave and react in a certain way. But these teachings are wrong. In this day and age it is more important than ever; that we teach love, mindfullness & compassion. We need to teach ourselves how to care for this earth and the animals who live on it, with love and respect. To look after ourselves and live a healthy life and remove the stressess that we put on ourselves. To look after ourselves, the animals and this earth, is what we need to focus on.
I personally have been dealing with past traumas that have left hurt in my body, and distrust in my mind. Letting these things go and forgiving others, is an important part of your spiritual path.
