Safer sleep week.

Safer sleep week.

Just because it’s on the shelf doesn’t mean it’s suitable for sleep. 🤔

Baby sleep products aren’t always designed with safer sleep in mind, even if they’re marketed that way.

When it comes to your baby’s sleep space, keep it simple to keep it safe. You don’t need to buy lots of products or spend money on expensive items.

The safest place for a baby to sleep is on their back in their own clear, flat, firm sleep space.

There are just a few items that we recommend – the baby necessities:

- Cot or Moses basket
- Portable sleep space such as a travel cot, carry cot or Moses basket
- Firm, flat, waterproof mattress
- Sleeping bag or sheets and a lightweight blanket
- Room thermometer
- Car seat – this is not intended for sleeping when not travelling, but is essential for safer travel.

International Women’s Day 💪

Today we celebrate all the women of Wishaw Neonatal. This includes all our staff who dedicate their careers to the care of families whilst navigating their own at home. But especially all those NICU mamas who have been thrust into motherhood in a way that wasn’t part of their plan but are by their babies bedside bossing it! And of course the baby girls AKA future leaders. Use this space to give a special shout out to your neonatal Wonderwoman 🦸‍♀️

World Book Day 📚

“A little Aoife Johnston update 🤎🪾 celebrating World Book Day. Aoife had her final health visitor check since being born at 28 weeks. She is above and beyond her age group doing absolutely amazing, chatting away and making us laugh every day. We think about Wishaw neonatal unit often as it never leaves you but how lucky are we to have her here doing so well thanks to you all ❤️”

Thanks to mummy for the update. Start ‘em young & they will thrive! Share your memories of reading in the NICU or world book day updates on this post. We love to see our graduates developing 📚📸

Nathan and Aaron turn 1️⃣

“I wanted to share an update on our twin boys who spent the first week of their lives with you in Wishaw.

After an unexpectedly hard welcome to the world in Ayrshire, we were transferred to Wishaw neonatal so our youngest could receive specialist cooling treatment.
Both boys came to Wishaw in a bad way with a poor prognosis but thanks to the unbelievable care from Wishaw they are thriving, hitting every milestone and are the happiest wee boys 🩵🩵

The team at Wishaw will never truly know how much you did or how grateful we are. You saved my babies and my family”

What a One derful update! Look at those cheeky wee faces in that cake smash picture. We hope the boys had the best birthday. Lots of love from all their aunties & uncles at Wishaw 🥳🎉

You might remember Leo from his going home video a couple of weeks back. Here a sneak preview of his first photo shoot. Well maybe not his first as the nurses love playing photographer especially on the night shift. Still looks so comfortable on his tummy ❤️

Thank you mummy for the update:
“Baby Leo is 5 weeks old today and thriving! Can’t thank his nurses enough. He is super precious! These pics are from his first photoshoot! First of many! Thank you all so much for helping my handsome boy!”

“Gracie turned 2 yesterday (1st March) and loved her Minnie Mouse themed birthday 🩷
We had an extra reason to celebrate this year too as she was discharged from the neonatal team a couple of weeks ago 🎉.
As always we just want to say a massive thank you every single one of you who had helped Gracie get to that point. We appreciate you all 🥰”

Happy 2nd birthday to the gorgeous Gracie. We hope you all enjoyed the Minnie Mouse celebrations 🐭🥳

Double trouble!! 🩵

“Hello, sharing an update on our twin boys Robbie and Ewan who have just turned 6 months. They were born early at 34 weeks. Ewan spent 2 weeks in NICU with some breathing difficulties, and Robbie a week in TCU before heading home.

Both boys are thriving (and sometimes sleeping) at home, with lots of entertainment from big sister Caitlin.

We're eternally grateful for the wonderful care and support we all experienced at Wishaw.”

Thank you for this lovely update ✨

Exceptional Obstetric Care – Thank You Dr Craig Anderson 🩺

“We just wanted to give a huge thank you to the amazing Dr Craig Anderson — who also happens to share the same special name as our beautiful baby 💙

From the very start, he was so kind, funny, and reassuring, and made us feel completely at ease during such an important time in our lives. The care we received from him and all the wonderful midwives at Wishaw General Hospital was truly outstanding, and we’ll always be so grateful for the support, compassion, and professionalism shown to our family.

We feel incredibly lucky that our little Craig shares the name of such a brilliant doctor who helped bring him safely into the world. Thank you for everything — you made our experience so positive and memorable ❤️”
