We would like to say a huge congratulations to our Medical Administrator, Allison Kerr, who has been with us for 20 years on 27th September. Allison started with us as one of our receptionists and has worked her way up to become a senior member of our team. We would like to thank Allison for all her hard work and dedication throughout the years.

On Thursday 28th August we held our first ever open visit within the Practice, which was a great success.
Dr Peak led the afternoon, with 5 patients having the opportunity to see the work which goes on behind the scenes. They visited each section within the Practice, from how we deal with askmyGP requests to dealing with test results, and everything else in-between. We would like to share some quotes of interesting facts from some of the people who came along and made it such a success:-

“The Practice works so well because of the integrated system of operation, where the Admin, Medical and Pharmacy staff coordinate their activities and produce a System which delivers synergy - where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
Keep it up please”

“Interesting to hear about the diverse services available”

“The fact that Admin. staff can alternate between roles, making for greater flexibility in times of holidays or sick leave”

“The triage system of dealing with requests is producing first class results in managing the daily workload”

“The sheer scale of the volume of prescription requests, both repeat and acute, received in a single month e.g. 6,793 Acute and 37,100 in July. Also, the size of the patient base i.e. 18,100”

“The use of the excellent resources of the other medical and pharmacy staff allows the huge patient numbers to be managed well”

“Very interesting and enlightening and Dr Peak was the perfect host”

Misconceptions that the bigger the practice, the less personal care you would receive and become just a number. Truth is it's the complete opposite which I have experienced first-hand. More specialist disciplines available in the practice, which saves patient waits for referrals and precious GP time.

Blown away with the Ask My GP, I've used it on various occasions and instant help has been given to resolve problems the same day. It is a well-oiled machine and speaking to colleagues in the NHS, they wish their practice had a similar service. It's great in providing more flexibility for those working and is an ideal way to triage and signpost patients.

The size of the staff team, how friendly and approachable they were. Teamwork makes the Dreamwork!

Hopefully we will be able to hold another open day in the not too distant future.

Protected Learning Time in GP Practice

NHS Lanarkshire are committed to ensure that they provide the best possible care to our patients at all times. In order to support and sustain valuable general practices, Protected Learning Time (PLT) is being introduced from June 2024 across all GP practices.

PLT is an opportunity for the GP Practice team including clinical, management and administrative staff to address learning and professional development needs.

NHS Lanarkshire has GPs, Advanced Nurse Practitioners (ANPs) and Call Handlers to provide cover for patients who require Acute or Urgent Care during 1400-1800 hours. Routine requests (such as results or repeat prescriptions) from patients received via the call handlers will be asked to call back the following day when your GP practice resumes business as usual.

The Call Handlers will screen all calls received in a similar manner to practice reception staff and if deemed appropriate, the patient will be transferred to a clinician who will initially carry out a telephone consultation. If the clinician feels that it is necessary for the patient to be seen face to face, they will arrange and appointment at a primary care centre or house visit that afternoon.

We will be closed between 1400 - 1800 on Wednesday 17th September 2025
