Nestlé used sales representatives dressed as "milk nurses" to visit mothers in hospitals and homes in developing countries. They provided free formula samples, encouraging mothers to stop breastfeeding. By the time the free samples ran out, the mothers' natural milk supply had dried up, forcing them to buy formula they could not afford.

Research published by the National Bureau of Economic Research estimates that roughly 10.8 million infants died between 1960 and 2015 as a result of formula use in low- and middle-income countries without clean water sources, with deaths peaking in the early 1980s

In late 2025 and early 26 Nestlé issued a massive global recall for several batches of SMA infant and follow-on formula after discovering potential contamination with cereulide.

Cereulide is a toxin produced by Bacillus cereus bacteria. It is particularly dangerous because it is heat-stable—meaning it cannot be deactivated by boiling water or the usual preparation of formula. Consumption can trigger severe nausea, vomiting, and stomach cramps in infants.

The recall affected products across Europe (including Germany, France, and the UK), Asia, and the Americas. In France, authorities launched investigations into how the recalls were handled following reports of hospitalisations and consumer backlash regarding the speed of the company's response.

Nestlé has been taking groundwater in drought-prone areas, bottling it, and selling it back at a profit. Nestlé extracted water even during severe drought. You've all heard the quote "Water is not a human right from them"
