Last week (04/03/2026) we had the privilege of attending the Annual Thanksgiving Service at Whitworth Hall, The University of Manchester.
Each year, approximately 900 students begin their studies in medicine, dentistry, physician associate studies and biomedical sciences at the University, with the study of human anatomy forming an important part of their training. The service honours those generous individuals who have chosen to donate their bodies to medical science so future healthcare professionals can learn and develop the skills needed to care for others.
It is always a deeply moving service, dedicated to remembering those who donated their bodies during the past year and recognising the incredible contribution they continue to make to future generations of healthcare and medical excellence.
It is a true honour for our team here at YOLO Funeral Services to be the trusted funeral directors supporting The University of Manchester and the School of Anatomy Department. Caring for those who have sadly passed away and supporting the families who have entrusted their loved ones to this remarkable act of generosity, is a responsibility we hold with the greatest respect.
During the service, students shared heartfelt messages of appreciation, expressing how the selflessness of donors has allowed them to learn not only about anatomy, but also about compassion, respect and human dignity, lessons that will shape the way they care for patients in the future.
We are proud to play a small part in honouring these extraordinary gifts and remembering the individuals who continue to help others even after their passing.
