10 Best Homoeopathic Medicines for Hypertension
March 3, 2021 by Dr. Harsh Goel
Blood pressure is the lateral pressure exerted by the blood on arteries. When this goes beyond the usual pressure, it becomes Hypertension or High Blood Pressure. This can lead to major health complications and raise the risk of heart disease, kidney failure, stroke or even death.
It is important to keep blood pressure under control to reduce the risk of grievous conditions which may develop because of high blood pressure.
Measuring Blood Pressure
Blood pressure of an individual is measured by an instrument called sphygmomanometer. Normally, high blood pressure does not present any symptoms. The only way to find out if you have high blood pressure is to visit a health care provider and get it checked, or measure it yourself at regular intervals. In the absence of symptoms, high blood pressure can cause damage to vital organs like heart, brain, eyes, kidneys etc.
OpenStax Anatomy and Physiology
Screening of hypertension should start at 18-19 years of age.
When the blood pressure remains consistently high, it burdens the heart to pump harder, leading to serious health problems.
Indians are hit by elevated blood pressure at a younger age than people in western countries. According to a study, nearly one in every five young adults in India has high blood pressure. Nearly half of all adults in the United States have high blood pressure, but this fact is not known to all.
When the heart beats or contracts, blood pumps from the heart into the arteries, and exerts pressure on the arterial walls. This is the time when blood pressure is the highest. It is called Systolic blood pressure. Between the beats, the heart remains at rest or heart muscles relax, at this time the blood pressure falls. This is called Diastolic pressure.

There are two different types of high blood pressure
Primary or essential hypertension
Secondary hypertension
Primary High Blood Pressure
This is also known as essential blood pressure. It is the most common type and found in the majority of people. It is difficult to identify its cause and this type of hypertension progresses over time with age.
Secondary High Blood Pressure
Secondary blood pressure can be seen in those people who are treated for another medical disorder. The medication or the medical disorder is the cause of high blood pressure. It occurs more suddenly than the primary hypertension and when the disorder is treated and the medication is stopped, the patient usually recovers or gets better. Secondary hypertension can be seen often among pregnant women and patients of kidney disease or a heart disorder.

Important Risk Factors
To***co chewing – It speeds up the heart rate that leads to high blood pressure
Cigarette smoking – Ni****ne in ci******es causes the blood pressure to rise. Passive cigarette smoking can also lead to high blood pressure.
Deficient physical activity may lead to elevated blood pressure
Diabetes is one of the causing factors of high blood pressure
Obesity / being overweight can be a contributing factor in high blood pressure
Sleep disorder – Lack of sleep may result in elevated blood pressure (hypertension)
Stress and anxiety – Staying continuously in stress and anxiety may raise the blood pressure
Alcohol consumption – Too much alcohol consumption may lead to high blood pressure
Eating unhealthy foods – food with high content of salt may raise blood pressure as junk foods usually contain trans fats and saturated fat and higher sodium or salt which leads to high blood pressure
Family history – There is an increased risk that you will get high blood pressure if your parents or other immediate blood relatives have it
Age – Our vascular system (circulatory system) alters as we age. The elasticity of arteries reduces and they get stiffer; that causes an increase in blood pressure. But children may also suffer from high blood pressure.
Homoeopathic Medicines for High Blood Pressure
Homoeopathic medicines can help keep high blood pressure in check, when accompanied by proper diet management and exercise. These medicines are safe for long term use, since they are made from natural plant sources. Those who have been diagnosed with hypertension recently and are not yet reliant on conventional medicines find Homoeopathic medicines particularly beneficial. However, even if the patient has already been taking allopathic medicines for high blood pressure, he/she can take homoeopathic medicines alongside, without discontinuing the allopathic medication all at once. Once the blood pressure has stabilised and come under control, the patient can switch entirely to Homoeopathic medicines.
