Wow, one week into 2023 already! How has it been for you? Generally January can feel a little flat with all the sparkle and festivities of Christmas now a distant memory. Maybe your new years resolutions have failed already ๐. Perhaps you are feeling a little lonely. Blue Monday is looming on the horizon. We have the power to change all this. I know it can be difficult because believe it or not I have days when I don't feel like doing anything at all. That's ok too but it's important that we don't allow this to become a habit and days doing nothing turn into weeks or even months. If you are someone who needs to do something with friends and they are not available, why not be courageous and try doing something alone? Although it will feel odd at first and maybe not as much fun as sharing something with your loved ones, you may start to enjoy it. Over ten years ago, I was desperate for a holiday but had no-one to go with. I bit the bullet and booked a week away in Spain. The hotel was lovely, weather glorious and the beaches were amazing but I found evening meals difficult. Some very kind people invited me to join them although I did feel like I was intruding on their time together. It was then that I decided to look for activity breaks and found walking and yoga breaks through Meetup and joined several of these around the UK. The great thing about an activity break or holiday is that most people are there on their own and you don't feel like the odd one out! Even better news is that everyone eats together so there isn't that awkward feeling of eating alone or taking a book or your phone as your dining companion!! I have been off trekking in the Himalayas, took a flight to see Mt Everest (I was never going to climb it ๐คฃ and have travelled on numerous yoga retreats too. The power of community really is key and finding joy in whatever you are doing. I went to see the latest Tom Hanks movie A Man Called Otto yesterday and although it was very emotional the value in being connected to those around you (in this case Otto's neighbours) was immeasurable. Although I live alone, I do have great friends, wonderful neighbours and an amazing yoga community who are like a very special family to me. I always feel so uplifted to be in their presence each week. I am thankful that I am also able to offer a monthly workshop of 2 hours which gives me time to share my love of yoga with others. These are an absolute joy to teach and it feels like we are getting an enormous hug from the world and from each other. If any of you are free on Saturday 14th January at 1330 then please get in touch wendy@littlebirdyoga.org or www.littlebirdyoga.org I would love to spend time with you ###๐
This year, get out there, find something (or someone!) you love. Volunteer, join a group, share your skills, get outside - the world needs people like you ๐ฅฐ๐ฅฐ
