Next up is some visible mending. These socks are my nephew's favourite ones so I said I'd have a go at repairing them, though as often is the case I discovered more worn areas so they end up being more darning & less sock! My Formula 1 Mclaren mad daughter picked the colours.

The darning mushroom belonged to my Grandmother & I'm a big fan of Erin Lewis-Fitzgerald - Modern Mending & Collingwood-Norris methods of darning so it's a blend of the old & the new.

After a very long break I've started to get my sewjo back with a bit of mending.

This bag was a bargain from Target about 8yrs ago & I use it for my cold water swimming as it has a zipper at the bottom to expand it's size. I'm really pleased that I've been able to replace the straps with these bright rainbow ones as it will give me many more years of use! Webbing from my fabulous local sewing & yarn shop Stitchery Do

CongratulationsšŸ„‚šŸ¾ to the lovely Alice & Matt on their long awaited wedding & well done on completely reformatting your wedding at short notice to fit in with the delay in restrictions lifting. Wishing you lots of happiness & good health for the future. This is just one of the new projects Iā€™ve been working on with my there are sooooo many creative ways to use it & Iā€™ve got so many ideas to incorporate it into my products so watch this spaceā€¦ā€¦.

Having so much fun with my machine. The white t-shirt was my first attempt at iron-on & by the time I did the black one I was feeling much more confident. I also like that I can use organic cotton t-shirts. These ones were from the Conscious range Nothing is safe in our house from being labelled at the moment šŸ˜€

A bit of confidence & belief building for my daughterā€™s assessments next week. Getting to grips with my new I had originally planned to put this on her revision notebook but as Iā€™m fast learning being a tween means you are very picky about your belongings!! Good luck to all the kids doing exams & assessments. As for the parents - hang in there!

Work in progress...... first attempt at boro stitching with The fabric from the bag I was planning to usewas very thin so plan to use that as the lining so Iā€™ve used some denim from an old pair of my hubbyā€™s jeans. Iā€™m really fascinated by how we can use existing fabrics to make new things. Iā€™m almost at the point of wanting to find holes in my clothes so I can repair them šŸ˜ƒšŸ§µThe stitching is very mindful & it was lovely being able to sew along online with the rest of the group & have a good catch up.

Tonight in my sewing group with weā€™re doing some boro stitching. Boro is a Japanese technique used for mending clothes....

Tonight in my sewing group with weā€™re doing some boro stitching. Boro is a Japanese technique used for mending clothes. So in the spirit of that Iā€™m upcycling an old cloth bag that was in my mending pile. Anyone else have a ridiculous number of reusable bags? No? Just me? šŸ˜¬need some more ideas on how to use them. Will post what we make later.

Sewing and Me!

Welcome to my page for my sewing business where you can view my latest creations. SophieMay Designs started in the Autumn of 2016. I had started sewing again a couple of years previously to help with Post Natal Depression. I love the style, variety & colours of modern day fabrics. There are so many things I want to make & not enough time! My recent experience of sewing is a far cry from my school days of doing needlework in Home Economics (showing my age now!). I find the whole process of choosing fabrics, colours & designs exciting & sewing has become very therapeutic for me. I have quite a fabric stash as home as Iā€™m a bit of a magpie when it comes to buying fabrics...... oooh shiny, sparkly, funky, beautiful fabric, must have it!

Iā€™m currently working on some new designs. I pride myself on being able to provide my customers with lots of choice in terms of fabric, linings & fastenings so that they can purchase a product that is special to them. If you see a product you like but would like it in a different colour way please message me & I will do my best to help. I can also source fabrics for a specific theme.
