“Approximately 15% of adults aged 60 and over suffer from a mental disorder. Mental health has an impact on physical health and vice versa. For example, older adults with physical health conditions such as heart disease have higher rates of depression than those who are healthy.” (World Health Organisation, 2017)
One of the criteria for Attendance Allowance is ‘Have had an illness or disability for at least 6 months, where you require support or have difficulties and challenges in everyday life’. Straight away you might think of a physical issue such as Arthritis, Diabetes, or a Stroke. While these types of conditions can be used as evidence to claim Attendance Allowance, it is important to recognise that mental health illnesses and disabilities are just as noteworthy.
Grey Matters Consultancy acknowledge that the people we come across may be suffering mentally, as well as physically. Therefore, our Life Navigators are here to support every client through the process and use their expertise to ensure they get the best possible outcome.
If you believe that you, or someone you know, may be eligible for Attendance Allowance then please get in touch.
