Focused Friends coordinated the event, inviting teams from Boyn Grove, Oakbridge, Woodley, and Wokingham. The tournament was a great opportunity to spend time together, share memories, and have fun. Paula said, “I thought it was good and fun!”. Danny added, “I had a fun time with my friends. I enjoyed throwing the ball when it was my turn.”

At Bluebell House, Oktoberfest has become a much-loved tradition, bringing residents, family, and staff together for a night of joy and celebration. The evening comes alive with the infectious sounds of a local Oompah Band, who have been a cherished part of the community, and Bluebell House, for several years. With cheerful music that gets everyone singing, dancing, and smiling and classic Oktoberfest treats like hot dogs and tumblers of beer, the event creates a lively atmosphere where people can relax, connect and enjoy themselves.

A group of people supported by our Independent Living Service in Windsor and Maidenhead recently invited The Advocacy People to a session focused on community experiences and inclusion.
The meeting gave people the chance to hear more about the advocacy service and share their own views. One key topic was the idea of a “safe hub” in Maidenhead town centre, following the closure of the Teapot Café, which had previously offered a welcoming space.
The group shared ideas about the types of social events they enjoy and were introduced to the Windsor Directory, which lists local clubs and activities for people with learning disabilities and other support needs.

This October, the Women’s Group at Oakbridge has been learning about breast cancer awareness through a series of discussions and activities. Using easy-read resources, the group talked about how to check for breast health and what signs and symptoms to look out for.
In one creative session, members made breast shapes out of salt dough, a fun way to support learning and understanding.
The group also welcomed Divina Obeng, Learning Disability Acute Liaison Nurse at Wexham Park Hospital, who visited to talk about health and wellbeing.
The group will wrap up the month with a “pink party”, wearing pink, enjoying pink-themed food, and more fun games.

With the support of Wokingham in Need, residents from Bluebell House visited the Whitty Theatre in Wokingham to enjoy the Old Time Musical Event.
It was a magical day out that brought back wonderful memories for many. One resident beautifully summed it up: “It was my best day. I haven’t been in a theatre for a long time, I enjoyed every minute here, from the red chairs to the stage and the performance. Thank you for making me feel so good.”
