Providing professional Canine Assisted Interventions and School Dog Training Programmes to schools
The Canine Assisted Wellbeing Group (CAWG) is dedicated to improving mental health and emotional wellbeing through professional canine support. We provide specialist interventions and support to children and adults across workplaces, schools, colleges, universities, mental health hospitals and care homes. We offer a confidential and supportive environment with our team of experienced consultants and specially trained dogs. Typically these can be one-to-one emotional regulation or talking therapy sessions in a range of areas such as depression, anxiety, eating disorders, self-harm, coping with change, trauma, self-regulation and bereavement. They can also be, however, just taking time out from a busy day to help relieve daily stresses and to stop and pause for a few moments in safe and calm surroundings. Our heritage brand โ Canine Assisted Learning โ lies in working with children of all ages and we are at the forefront of academic and therapeutic interventions in schools supporting learning and emotional regulation. We have worked with many children and schools across the UK over the past five years, supporting their emotional wellbeing with a focus on positive mental health. In 2019, we launched our services in the workplace to offer canine assisted intervention sessions to employees in businesses. It is well documented how our mental health can suffer โ often in silence โ in the workplace and the impact it can have on productivity, motivation and attitude. We are now successfully working with a number of businesses offering regular one-to-one sessions for employees to encourage them to focus on their mental health and emotional wellbeing. Our specialist interventions have attained outstanding results in all areas of work. We pride ourselves on the professional delivery and quality of service we offer. And we continue to champion with passion the work we do in the field of mental health and emotional wellbeing.

๐พ School Dog of the Month โ Martin! ๐
This month, weโre celebrating Martin, a much-loved Cockapoo from St Martins School in Derby! ๐
Martin has been brightening the school since 2021 and lately has been proudly demonstrating his buzzer skills, helping children take turns and develop their communication abilities.
His handlers work hard to ensure that Martinโs time at school is meaningful, productive, and balanced, and he adapts brilliantly to the variety of sights, sounds, and equipment โ managing what can be a challenging environment for a dog with grace and confidence. ๐ถโจ
Keep up the amazing work, Martin โ you truly are a superstar! ๐

๐ฏ๏ธ Remembrance Sunday | We Will Remember Them
Today, we pause to honour the courage, sacrifice, and service of those who gave so much โ and continue to do so โ for our freedom.
At Canine Assisted Learning, we also take a moment to remember the incredible animals who served alongside soldiers, providing loyalty, comfort, and courage in the most difficult of times. ๐พโค๏ธ
Their bravery and companionship remind us of the powerful bond between humans and animals โ a bond that continues to bring healing, hope, and strength today.
โThey shall grow not old, as we that are left grow oldโฆโ

๐พ Silver Awards Success! ๐
Congratulations to Bertie Earle Smith at Worplesdon Primary for completing his Silver Awards! ๐
Bertie has been proudly showing off his PAWS passes, which are going down a storm with the students. These special passes allow children to take a break from class to spend time with Bertie, helping them self-regulate, manage their emotions, and feel calm and supported. ๐
Itโs wonderful to see how much of a difference Bertie is making in school!

๐๐พ Happy Half Term & Halloween from all of us at Canine-Assisted Learning! ๐พ๐
As schools pause for a well-deserved break, our amazing dogs are taking some time out too โ swapping their school sessions for cosy naps, countryside walks, and (of course) a few treats! ๐๐
Half term is the perfect opportunity to slow down, reset, and spend some calm, quality time together โ something our dogs remind us to do every day. ๐
Weโd like to wish all our schools, pupils, families, and fellow practitioners a spook-tacular and restful week ahead. Thank you for all the wonderful work you do in helping us support wellbeing and connection through our dogs. ๐งก

๐งก National Adoption Week | 21โ27 October ๐งก
This week weโre recognising and celebrating National Adoption Week โ a time to raise awareness, share stories, and honour the incredible journeys of adopted children and their families.
At Canine-Assisted Learning (CAL), we see every day how our dogs help children feel safe, build trust, and develop confidence โ vital foundations for those navigating change, belonging, and new family dynamics.
Our therapy dogs provide unconditional acceptance, helping young people to express emotions, process experiences, and connect in their own time and way.
To all adoptive families โ we see you, we celebrate you, and weโre proud to walk alongside you. ๐๐พ

๐ Gratitude Trees at CAL ๐
We had a fab day today making gratitude trees โ a lovely, reflective activity that works beautifully with all age groups! ๐ณ๐
Each child was encouraged to think of something they feel grateful for and write or draw it on a leaf. ๐ The leaves were then added to our class tree, creating a beautiful display of kindness, connection, and appreciation. ๐
Of course, our practitioner dog Charlie had her very own gratitude tree too โ we made one for her first to model the activity ๐พ๐ถ
Simple, creative, and full of heart. ๐

๐ฟ Nessie at Potley ๐ฟ
Our wonderful school dog Nessie has taken on an exciting new role โ spearheading the Gardening Club! ๐พ๐ธ
Sheโs been overseeing all the digging (with some supervision ๐ ), helping pupils nurture their plants, and reminding everyone to take a mindful moment outdoors. ๐ผ๐
Who knew green paws could do so much good? ๐ฑ๐ถ

๐ Ordering sizes of dogs โ from tiny terriers to mighty mastiffs ๐
๐ And of courseโฆ looking cute while I do it! ๐
All in a dayโs work for a Canine-Assisted Learning practitioner dog! ๐พ

๐พ Ralph at Vigo ๐พ
Meet Ralph, officially the most laid-back school dog ๐
Heโs been busy at Vigo lately โ helping students settle into new routines, offering calm during transitions, and reminding everyone that sometimes, the best support comes with a wagging tail. ๐ถ๐
Weโre so proud of this gentle boy and the difference he makes every day. ๐ซ
