Chlamydia is the most common STI in the UK, especially among young people.

Although most people don’t have any symptoms, chlamydia can cause pain or a burning feeling when you p*e. Women may experience an increase or change in vaginal discharge, pain in the lower tummy, pain during s*x or bleeding after s*x or between periods. In men it can cause discharge from the tip of their p***s and/ or pain or tenderness in the testicles.

It's quick and easy to get tested for chlamydia – there’s no need for you to come to a clinic as you can get a free test sent to your home 👉🔗 https://www.embracewolverhampton.nhs.uk/stis/getting-tested-stis

Did you know you can get syphilis more than once? Even if you've had treatment before, you're not protected from getting it again.

Syphilis often has no symptoms, so regular testing is the only way to know. If left untreated, it can cause serious and potentially life-threatening problems.

Protect yourself and others - get tested every 3 months if you're s*xually active or have new partners.

For advice about your s*xual health please call our advice line on 📞 01902 481689 (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday 9am – 12pm and Tuesday 10am-12pm). Or to book an appointment, call 📞 01902 444444.

Myth: “The Pill Makes You Gain Weight”

‼️Fact ‼️While some people report a slight weight gain when they start using the contraceptive pill, studies show that there is no consistent link between the pill and long-term weight gain. The hormones in birth control pills can cause temporary water retention, but this usually stabilises over time. If you’re concerned about side effects, speak to us at Embrace Sexual Health Service; there are plenty of options available, and finding the right one for you is key!

📬 Empowering young people to stay safe! Free condoms delivered straight to your door through the C‑Card scheme.

Last year Embrace launched a new initiative to assist their patients in staying safe. Free condoms by post are available to people who have signed up to the Wolverhampton C-Card scheme, aged 19-24.

We joined Health Promotion Officer, Lorraine, as she is processing an order.

Lorraine started her career with Embrace when the Wolverhampton Teenage Pregnancy Unit closed. She told us: “I was redeployed to work in s*xual health and was able to utilise my experience working with young people to take on a health promotion role.

“The most interesting part of my role is working with external stakeholders, such as young people’s organisations and specialist services in the community. These links have been developed over many years and have been invaluable in helping to raise awareness of Embrace across the city.”

Condoms are also the only form of contraception that can prevent both s*xually transmitted infections (STIs) and pregnancy.

If you are 25 or over, you can still attend an Embrace clinic to access free condoms.

You can now book a cervical screening appointment with Embrace if you are aged 25-34.

Cervical screening, which used to be called a smear test, is a test to check the health of the cervix and help prevent cervical cancer. The test, which is not to test for cancer but to help prevent cancer, is offered every five years.

📞Call 01902 444444 and quote “OPEN ACCESS” to book your cervical screening appointment.

Evening slots are available, but these appointment times are popular and get booked quickly. The team will do their best to accommodate you.

🩸 Early detection saves lives. Here’s how routine testing in ED is transforming HIV and Hepatitis B diagnosis.

The HIV Team plays a pivotal role in delivering high‑quality care through blood-borne virus (BBV) testing within the Emergency Department (ED).

All adults attending ED who require blood tests are now automatically included in screening for HIV and Hepatitis B. So far, the programme has carried out over 28,000 tests in Wolverhampton and 19,000 in Walsall, significantly boosting opportunities for early diagnosis.

Lovejoy Guinto, HIV Clinical Nurse Specialist Lead, said: “Thanks to the dedication of the team and our close partnership with ED, Wolverhampton is identifying cases of HIV and Hepatitis B much sooner, while ensuring people are quickly connected to Embrace for ongoing, specialist support.” 👏

🏳️‍🌈 Discover how our outreach clinics make s*xual health support more accessible.

Embrace hold weekly outreach clinics to enable patients to receive s*xual health treatment and advice at more convenient locations and times.

These are designed to improve accessibility for vulnerable groups such as young people and the LGBTQ+ community.

Here is Dr Prita Banerjee, Consultant/Clinical Director in Sexual Health and HIV, at the City Centre Pride House clinic.

Dr Banerjee shares: “It’s a really informal set-up in the city centre. It’s relaxed and there’s a lovely team here waiting to see our patients. We pride ourselves on being able to offer a quiet and discreet space, which is also accessible.”
