Hazel gets a new baby as Doll therapy for dementia uses lifelike dolls or soft animals to provide comfort, reduce anxiety, and promote nurturing, offering a sense of purpose and improving mood for individuals in middle to later stages, though it requires careful, person-centered implementation to avoid infantilization and potential distress, often involving caregivers engaging with the doll to facilitate interaction and connection.
The Benefits for our Hazel is it reduces anxiety & agitation: Provides a calming, soothing effect, reducing restlessness, distress, and challenging behaviors.
Increases purpose & self-esteem: Fosters nurturing instincts and gives a sense of responsibility, improving mood and confidence.
Improves communication & engagement: Can open channels for interaction and encourage participation in activities.
Provides comfort: Offers a transitional object, acting as a source of security during changes like moving to a care home.

We have started the week with a look back at wolverhampton, looking through artifacts that our wonderful Anita has given us to look at. We have had the opportunity to explore tin photos, express and star 1925, hairstyles, school reports from 1920, enginering tools and we played jacks, it was lovely to share our own memories.
