Now, that’s how you open a festival! Welcome to Wolverhampton Fringe Arts Wolves!
SUIT were out & about in the city last night celebrating culture, creativity, and collaboration. Fringe is now open for a weekend of events and the beginning of an annual creative offer that will shape Wolverhampton’s cultural future.
Developed by Asylum Art Gallery & Studios Ltd, Gatis Community Space , Wolverhampton Today , and Wolverhampton Bid , and supported by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund with branding by Luke Reader, the festival brings together partners committed to building a stronger cultural identity for the city.
Last night saw an incredible parade led by Kupid through the city centre with lanterns, glowing mushrooms, folk beasts, and performances from Hit The Dhol, Jodi Dancers, Flexus Dance, & Ozara Nigeran folk gods. Kupid performed his powerful spoken word 'Man on the Horse' & students from West Park Primary showcased a communal patchwork banner made in workshops with Gatis community, exploring diverse ancestral cultural stories and themes of 'home'. There was a beautiful and empowering performance from Sterran Dance’s Legacy & Flexus Dance Collective, and the stunning lantern parade was supplied by Gatis Community & productions.
The parade ended in St Peter’s Square with mesmerising light projections by Illuminos. Inside St Peter’s is an art exhibition featuring SUIT & Asylum’s Wayne Taft, which you can visit this weekend. The setting is phenomenal.
