Had the absolute pleasure of working with this super yogi again today after the lockdown pause! One beautiful thing that has come out of the pause is private yoga sessions- being able to dedicate time and focus to developing sequences and skills that encourage focus and calm is such a privilege and it’s a lovely way to spend a Sunday morning. Thank you for the gorgeous photos 💕🌟🌈

Treefrog Yoga has been on pause….celebrating my big birthday and having a brilliant few days away in a beautiful retrofitted camper from in Bury. It was so much fun for everyone and plenty of opportunity for outdoor sunset yoga! 🧘‍♀️ 🧘 🌱 🌅

Yoga is a lovely way to connect. Sit and look at each other’s eyes, then synchronise your breathing. Breathe out for longer than you breathe in. Then take it in turns to invent poses- acroyoga is always a hit here but you can invent any poses you like- there is no wrong pose! We told the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears together and took it in turns to make up the poses to go with the story. A lovely way to switch off and connect at the same time before bedtime, particularly with so much excitement about sleeping in the pop-top ‘bat-cave’ roof as the children called it and hanging upside down from it like bats! 💕

Spending time with family this summer whilst waiting for rates to settle again and fingers crossed for a more ‘normal’ autumn! I can’t wait to teach family yoga again!

Knowing how to settle is such an important skill. Meditation can be an extension of this settling. For children, and even some of us who are have an inner child or have busy children ourselves, just being able to settle and be calm and ‘do nothing’ can be quite a challenge. People always think of yoga as being a persuit for the flexible and calm...but actually it’s for the rest of us who find it hard to be calm and are forever working on the flexible! Learning how to switch off is as important as learning how to focus. 🧘‍♀️🧘🧘🏻‍♂️🧘‍♀️🧘

Kids, family, partner and toddler yoga

I have always had a passion for creating meaningful and exciting experiences for children. I first practised yoga at university, following a book I found in the second hand book shop featuring New York City ballet but it gave me the basis of sun salutations. My interest in yoga continued through pregnancy and after my children where I discovered the most inspiring yoga class that helped me to overcome my post-natal anxiety by practicing the sequences daily at home as well as in class. Lots of the techniques used in this class I found would be transferable to a class of KS2 children I was teaching at the time, to increase focus as well as strength, be more self-aware and bring mindfulness into the classroom. I also realised it could be adapted to suit my own young children to allow us to practice yoga together. Rainbow Yoga was the obvious choice to train to be a certified kids yoga teacher, and being a primary school teacher of 15 years, teaching twice-weekly PE lessons, the management of children combined with meaningful movement, breathing and meditation techniques and props came naturally to me. I love weaving in stories, imagination, music, world tales, animals and magical themes to make it suit the group that I am teaching, and I am constantly researching ways to bring something new, exciting and useful to the classes. It is with this experience, joy and knowledge that I apply the principles of yoga into making a fun and playful class for all to enjoy, gain something from to use in daily life and to bring awareness to stretching, breathing, balancing and connecting with friends, parents and siblings.
