How do we test the nerves in clinic? ⚡️⚡️⚡️
Nerve damage or irritation most commonly presents as pins and needles, burning pain, shooting pains or tingling which may be intermittent or permanent and at varying intensities. (Bad signal area)
As it progresses, it may reduce more information travelling either from the body to the brain, or brain to body which can result in numbness or muscle weakness. (No signal area)
To diagnose, we initially use your history such as how long its been present, aggravating or relieving factors and what physical pattern of symptoms are present.
Then we go through different tests where we stress the nerve (a little bit) in different scenarios to see which is causing symptoms.
Then we use this toolkit to assess extent of symptoms.
If needed we may refer out for MRI if we suspect a major or structural cause, or something that may affect your long term management or treatment protocols.
Happy healing ✨️
