Well done to the Nursery and Reception team at Grove Primary School, Malvern, for completing their supervised tooth brushing training this week!🎉

They will be starting the programme this year.

Supervised tooth brushing is an evidence based programme in selected schools and nurseries across Worcestershire. It helps children brush their teeth at nursery or school, which reduces tooth decay😁

🌟 It’s Nutrition & Hydration Week! 16th-22nd March 2026 🥛🍞
Staying hydrated is essential for your health. Aim for 6–8 glasses of fluids a day to help prevent dehydration.
💧 Healthy drink choices include:

Water
Lower‑fat milk
Sugar‑free drinks (including tea and coffee)

🍎 Remember: Fruit juices and smoothies do count towards your fluid intake, but they contain sugar — so it’s best to keep them to mealtimes to help protect your teeth.

💡 Struggle with drinking enough fluids?
Set yourself small, achievable goals.

Day 1: Aim for 1 glass
Day 2: Increase to 2 glasses
Slowly increase throughout the week at a pace that works for you.

Keeping water in the fridge can also make it feel more refreshing and easier to drink.

The national 5-year-old dental survey is currently taking place within schools across Worcestershire.
This happens every two years and helps collect important information about children’s dental health.

🦷 Key things to know: 🦷

• 🎯 The goal: Identify the presence/rate of tooth decay in local areas

• 👩‍⚕️🧑‍⚕️ How they do it? Community dentists visit schools to do a quick, easy check of children aged 5-year-olds on the day. All children would have to have a consent from signed by parents/guardians to take part.✍️

• 💡 Why it matters: In England, over 1 in 5 children have some tooth decay. This survey helps highlight where extra toothbrushing support is needed.

• 📊 The result: Local authorities use this information to understand oral health needs in their area and to help plan and review dental services and programmes.

👧🧒 Is your child 5 years old and you’ve received a letter from their school?

Don’t forget to return the consent form so your child can take part in the survey! ✔️

🦷✨How to explain to your child what is tooth decay so they understand?🦷✨

Helping a child understand what tooth decay is can improve their oral hygiene habits and willingness to care of their teeth.

When talking to a child, you could say:

‘Tooth decay can start when tiny germs in your mouth munch on the sugar from snacks and drinks. Germs love sugar! When teeth aren’t brushed properly, the germs stick around and can make little holes in the teeth, called cavities.’

⭐ Top tips ⭐
⭐ Brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste to keep those teeth strong and healthy!
⭐Think about how often sugary items are being eaten or drank, ideally stick to consuming during mealtimes.

✨ Are you flossing — and are you doing it right?
Or want to start but not sure how? Here’s your quick guide! 👇🦷

🧵 1. Take 30–45cm of floss
Wrap the ends around your index fingers, leaving about 3 inches to work with.

↕️ 2. Slide gently between your teeth
Guide the floss down carefully — no snapping!

🌀 3. Form a “C” shape
Curve the floss around each tooth and slide below the gum line to remove plaque.

⬆️⬇️ 4. Clean both sides
Move the floss up and down each side of the tooth to fully clean the gap.

🗓️ 5. Floss once a day — before brushing
This helps your toothpaste reach all the right places.

Your gums will thank you! 🫶🦷

✨ Ramadan Dental Tips ✨

Fasting can affect your oral health, so it’s still essential to brush twice a day for two minutes using a fluoride toothpaste.

During Ramadan, you can brush:

• 🕓 After Suhoor (pre dawn meal)
• 🌅 After Iftar (breaking the fast)

Sweet treats and desserts are a big part of Iftar — even dates can be sticky on teeth. Enjoy them, but keep your smile protected! 😄🦷

To reduce cavity risk during Ramadan:

✅ Wait up to an hour after eating before brushing
This helps protect your enamel.

✅ Avoid frequent snacking between Iftar and Suhoor
Less sugar exposure = healthier teeth!

🌙✨ Wishing you a healthy and blessed Ramadan! ✨🌙
