World Cancer Day | Early Detection Saves Lives

Cancer screening saves lives.
It can find cancer before symptoms appear, when treatment is often simpler and more effective.

If you’re invited for screening, whether it’s for breast, cervical, bowel, or prostate cancer.
Please take up the offer. It might feel easy to put off, but those few minutes could make a life-changing difference.

Screening isn’t about assuming something is wrong.
It’s about looking after yourself, staying informed, and giving yourself the best chance of early treatment if anything is found.

Today is a good day to:
Check which screenings you’re eligible for
Book or attend your appointment
Encourage a friend or family member to do the same

Early detection saves lives.
Your health matters. 💙

Ahead of the upcoming bank holidays, here are some things to remember about accessing NHS services:

1️. To avoid delays in getting your medicines, order your prescriptions in good time.

2️. Some pharmacies may have different opening hours – search online for ’find a pharmacy’ to find your nearest one.

3️. For urgent medical help, access NHS 111 by using the NHS App, going online or calling.

4️. You can contact your GP practice as normal. If they are closed, use NHS 111.

5️. If you need urgent dental treatment, contact your usual dentist. If you don’t have one, use NHS 111.

Visits to the NHS page on seasonal affective disorder (SAD) are up around 30% this month – so if the darker days are affecting your mood or energy, you’re not alone 💛

Small things can help:

☀️ making the most of natural light – getting outside or sitting near windows
🏃‍♀️ physical activity – anything that gets you moving
🗂️ planning for tougher days – shifting stressful tasks and building in more rest

There are also treatments like light therapy, talking therapies and medication if you’re finding things really tough.

Feel free to forward this to anyone who might find winter a bit tougher.

Brr! It’s chilly out there. 🥶

Temperatures are dropping across the country this week - it’s time to dig out those extra layers!

Cold snaps can be particularly tough on our health, especially if you’re older or managing a health condition.

But some simple steps can help:
🦠 get your winter vaccinations, if eligible
🌡️ keep your home warm (at least 18°C if you can)
👨‍👩‍👦 check in on friends, family and neighbours
