📣📣📣Ok. This is probably my most requested swap ever.

Gravy…VERYcontroversial territory.

Both of these ingredient lists are long. I’m not pretending one is three ingredients from your nan’s cupboard,

BUT

One of them actually contains recognisable food.
Onion.
Beef stock.
Tomato.
Herbs.

The other… reads more like a chemistry GCSE revision sheet.

This is where label reading gets interesting. It’s not about perfection. It’s about what makes up the bulk of the product.

Is it real food… or flavourings, colourings and things that exist purely to make brown water taste like Sunday lunch?

Yes, the better one costs more. That’s the honest bit.

If you really want the gold standard, you can make it yourself from meat juices and stock. That’s always going to win.

But if you’re grabbing something off the shelf mid week while juggling homework, laundry and someone crying because their Yorkshire pudding touched a carrot… this is a simple upgrade 🤣.

No food fear.
No gravy shaming.
Just better swaps, one shelf at a time ✌🏼.

I used Nectar Price deals this week to build meals around protein, fibre and healthy fats, not labels or trends.

This is what I bought to support energy, gut health and fullness for the whole family.

Eating well doesn’t start with a perfect shop, it starts with better staples and a bit of intention.

Save this for your next shop đź›’đź’›

Simple ingredients.
Foods that add protein and fibre.
Nothing fancy or unrealistic.
All things I’d genuinely put in my trolley.

Every product here is currently on Tesco Clubcard price, which makes a big difference when you are shopping for a family.

💛What’s going in your trolley? Save for your next shop!

Another HUGE reminder that reading the ingredients can literally change your health!

Ok, not just by swapping your relish, BUT if you’re doing this for multiple foods in your weekly shop, it all adds up 🙌🏼👏🏼.

Your health is determined by your daily food choices!

Sausage and chips but make it nourishing 🍽️

It’s one of those meals that doesn’t look fancy, doesn’t take long, but just works for the whole family. High in protein and fibre and always demolished!

We always use Finnebrogue sausages because the taste is unrivalled and they even contain chicory inulin which is a natural prebiotic fibre. Yes, even sausage and chips can support gut health.

Skin on chips, simple veg on the side, everything in the oven, dinner done in about 25 minutes and everyone happy.

Make sure you pick up some sausages on your next food shop đź’›

So many products aimed at children are ultra processed, heavily marketed, and wrapped in reassurance.
“Kids snacks.”
“Lunchbox approved.”
“Made for little ones.”

But clever packaging doesn’t equal nourishment.

As parents, it’s not our job to be perfect.
It is our job to be informed.

Because when you understand what ultra processed foods are, how they impact growing bodies, and where flexibility actually fits, feeding your children becomes calmer, clearer, and far less stressful.

This isn’t about fear.
It’s about confidence.
It’s about knowing when to lean in and when to let go.

Education is power.
And our kids deserve parents who feel empowered, not overwhelmed.

Life is busy. Adding these foods into your weekly shop can be a heavenly gut boost. Here’s why 👇

Colours of nature
Different colours mean different polyphenols. These help support the gut lining and a diverse microbiome. Variety over perfection.

Healthy fats
Healthy fats help protect the gut lining and keep digestion steady. They also help meals feel more satisfying.

Fibre
Fibre feeds your gut bacteria and helps keep things moving. Different fibres do different jobs, so mixing it up matters.

Ferments
Ferments add beneficial bacteria and support gut diversity. Small amounts regularly tend to work best.

is my go to for our main food shop.
