Let me introduce myself . Hi, I’m Tom — Owner and Founder of Stonemasons of Worcester & Veteran
Life hasn’t always been straightforward. Growing up, I struggled to find where I belonged. School was difficult — I faced bullying and often felt like I was on the outside looking in. It wasn’t a place where I thrived.
At 16, everything changed when I moved to Bath to study stonemasonry. It was there that I discovered my passion — a craft that gave me purpose, focus, and pride. After four years of training, I qualified as a stonemason and realised something powerful: when you put your heart and mind into something, you really can achieve anything.
At 21, I felt a new pull — a desire to see more of the world and push myself further. That’s when I joined the Army. I’ll admit, I was nervous that the old feelings of being singled out might return, but instead, I found strength, discipline, and belonging. My mindset had shifted completely.
Over the years, I served two tours in Iraq, lived in Germany, and trained across Canada and Poland. I became part of the ski team in Austria, hiked through the Rockies and the Corsican mountains — experiences that challenged me, shaped me, and built a resilience that’s stayed with me ever since.
When I eventually left the military, I knew I wanted to build something meaningful — something that reflected both my craft and the lessons life had taught me. At 29 years old Stonemasons of Worcester was born.
Today aged 44 I feel proud — proud of what I’ve built for my family, for my clients, and for myself. My journey hasn’t been easy, but it’s been worth every step.
More recently, I’ve found a new passion — pushing myself physically through fitness races and endurance challenges. It’s in these moments that I draw on every lesson I’ve learned in life: resilience, focus, and the belief that growth comes from struggle.
And truthfully, I feel like this is only the beginning — the start of truly finding my why.
