✴️ A NEW CHAPTER FOR GARLAND SURGICAL!

We’re proud to open an exciting new chapter in our journey: our novel, patented hip implant, previously known as MaltaHip, will now be called TriActiv Hip – a name that captures the tri‑axial engineering at the heart of the design, and our vision for enhanced mobility, stability, and durability in today’s active patients.

MaltaHip will always be part of our story. It represents our roots as a University of Malta spin‑out and the foundation that enabled us to secure early funding, clinical interest, and invaluable feedback from partners around the world. But as we ready ourselves for Series A investment, it’s clear our brand must reflect our momentum and ambition.

TriActiv Hip does exactly that. It aligns our identity with our engineering innovation and the clinical outcomes we’re building towards, especially in high‑performance markets where patient mobility matters most.

Alongside this launch, we’re unveiling a refreshed Garland Surgical identity – including a redesigned website – all crafted to express the energy, precision, and purpose behind TriActiv Hip.

What remains unchanged is our mission: to bring this breakthrough technology successfully to market, build robust clinical and commercial evidence, and create lasting value for patients, clinicians, and shareholders alike.

📢 Santander X UK Awards: Pitching Success!

Earlier this week Natalie delivered a 4 minute pitch about Garland and the in the first round of the virtual pitches for the Santander X UK Awards 2025. The presentation was watched and evaluated by 4 judges who had backgrounds in academia, investment and customer engagement. Following the pitch, Natalie and Simon then had 4 minutes of Q&A to help give the panel further context into the Garland proposition.

🎉 We heard yesterday evening that we have been successful and we have made it into the final 25 Start Ups from across the UK! We pitch again next week, with the final 9 Start Ups heading to London for the semi final, and the final 3 head to Milton Keynes for the final on 13th November.

As always we are taking it each step at a time, learning from the fantastic coaching that Santander X and the Oxentia Foundation are providing us with and trying to enjoy the moment although 4 minutes goes in the blink of an eye!

The BioSeed awards are highly regarded and sought-after awards programme for life sciences, designed to celebrate innovation and outstanding achievement across all corners of the industry. The twelve award categories shine a light on companies at all stages of development, recognising inspirational leadership, exciting innovation, novel and exciting approaches to unmet clinical needs, outstanding company progression and the delivery of real-life, tangible results.

The independent external judging panel will now evaluate each entry in a rigorous assessment process, with the winners announced at the awards ceremony in London on 26th November.

📢 Exciting news to share - Garland has been shortlisted for the Santander X UK Awards 2025! We are incredibly proud to have been selected out of nearly 1,200 applications and to be included in a cohort of entrepreneurs and innovators who are pushing boundaries and building impactful businesses.

Over the coming weeks, we'll be taking part in pitch heats, where we will present Garland Surgical and the to a panel of judges for a chance of securing a place in the National Final on 13 November.

We are looking forward to sharing more about our journey over the coming weeks. If you are curious about the X Awards competition or want to support along the way, stay tuned – we will be posting further updates as the weeks progress.

🎤 Last week Garland Surgical a University of Malta spin-out had the opportunity to present live at Malta DiHUBMT at the Tőkeportál &go event.

Our CEO, Simon Mifsud introduced the : a truly novel, whole-life hip replacement invented at the University of Malta by Prof Pierre Schembri-Wismayer MD PhD, Prof. Ing. Joseph Buhagiar, Prof. Ing. Pierluigi Mollicone, and Dr Ing. Donald Dalli.

🌏 It was a great opportunity for us to showcase the Maltese-made ; its technology and the value that it will bring to patients and healthcare professionals globally; as well as hear from the other exciting ventures being presented and what they have to offer.

💌 Whenever we present the we find that most people have experience of hip replacement, be it personal, or that of a family member or friend. And very often, people will tell us the stories of how they have been told they will need future revision surgery, or that they have been told to limit their activities to avoid dislocation. There are still improvements to be made in terms of what we can expect to have from a hip replacement. We shouldn't have to settle for a less active life. 🏃‍♀️‍➡️

🌱Crowdfunding through companies like Tokeportal.com gives everyone the opportunity to come together to support small companies like Garland Surgical Ltd on these important social and healthcare missions. It can fund an extra engineer to speed up our product development plans, support the costs of important clinical study or help us bring the to another world geography sooner. As the saying goes, 'from little acorns mighty oaks grow' 🌱 🌳
