March Is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month

Here at Manton Pharmacy we want to raise awareness and bring you more information that could help you or a loved one.

Did You Know some men have a higher chance of developing prostate cancer?
The risk increases after age 50, having a father or brother with prostate cancer increases risk, men of Black African or Caribbean heritage have a higher risk and lifestyle factors such as obesity and lack of exercise may also contribute.

Early prostate cancer may not cause symptoms, which is why awareness is important.
Possible symptoms can include: -
* Difficulty starting or stopping urination
* Weak or slow urine flow
* Frequent urination, especially at night
* Blood in urine or semen
* Pain in the lower back, hips, or pelvis

⚠️Please Note: These symptoms can also be caused by non-cancerous conditions, but they should still be checked by a healthcare professional.

👉 Men in higher-risk groups may benefit from speaking to a healthcare professional about screening earlier.

We know seeing stories about medication shortages can be a bit worrying, so we just want to let you know that we are working tirelessly to get you covered at Manton Pharmacy.

We are aware of the increasing list of medications which are difficult to obtain lately and want to assure you that although in the coming months there may be countless articles circulating about shortages, here at Manton Pharmacy we are being proactive and attempting to obtain medication in advance from our wholesalers so that you, our trusted community, can continue to rely on us.

We work with a number of different wholesalers to ensure wider availability of the medicines you need. If something does happen to be out of stock, our team will always do our best to sort a suitable alternative so there’s no break in your treatment. We work in conjunction with the prescribing teams in your GP surgery to allow this to happen with minimal effect to our patients.

We also offer a free delivery service, so if you can’t make it into the pharmacy, we can bring your medication straight to your door.

If you’re ever unsure or have any questions about your prescription, just pop in for a chat or give us a call on 01909 477772 — we’re always happy to help.

Day 1: One simple way to start the season right!

It’s officially December, which means fairy lights, mince pies, and a lot of festive hot drinks ☕✨

But before you reach for that first coffee or cuppa, start your morning with a big glass of water.💧

It might not sound festive, but staying hydrated is one of the easiest ways to boost your energy, support your immune system, and keep that “I’m ready for Christmas” glow going strong.

A quick hydration top-up helps balance out all those winter warmers, keeps your skin happy, and even helps your body cope better with the cold.

So here’s your Day 1 challenge: raise a glass (of water!) to good health this December. 🥂

Wishing a very Happy Thanksgiving to all our friends and colleagues across the pond! 🧡

While we don’t officially celebrate Thanksgiving here in the UK, we love the reminder it brings: to pause, reflect, and show gratitude for the people and moments that make life brighter.

At Manton and Silverwood Pharmacies, we’re thankful every day for our wonderful community who trust us to support their health and wellbeing.

Whatever you're doing today, whether it’s munching down turkey and pumpkin pie, or just having a quiet cuppa, take a moment to appreciate something (or someone) you’re grateful for. 🙏

From 25 November through to 10 December, we join the global campaign of 16 Days of Action to end domestic and gender-based violence. 💛

At Manton and Silverwood Pharmacies, we believe that health isn’t just physical; feeling safe, supported, and respected is just as important.

If you are experiencing domestic abuse, remember: you are not alone, it is not your fault, and help is available.

Let’s spread awareness and kindness. Let’s make safety and well-being a priority.

It’s Self Care Week (17-23 Nov), so here's a gentle reminder that looking after your mind and body go hand in hand. 💙

At Manton and Silverwood Pharmacies, we believe self-care isn’t just a treat, it’s a key part of staying well. So here are three simple acts you can carry out today:

Take five minutes to breathe deeply and check in with how you’re feeling inside.

Move your body for just ten minutes; a stretch, a walk, anything that gets you flowing.

Ask yourself: What’s one thing I can do just for me today?

Share in the comments: What small self-care act are you choosing this week?

This week marks Anti-Bullying Week 💙

Bullying, whether online, at school, or in the workplace, can profoundly affect both mental and physical health.

At Manton and Silverwood Pharmacies, we believe that feeling supported and respected is a huge part of overall well-being.

Here are a few small ways to spread kindness this week:

🌿 Check in with someone who might be having a tough time
🌿 Speak up if you witness something unkind
🌿 Limit screen time if social media is affecting your mood
🌿 Write down one thing you’re proud of today

Let’s make empathy our default. You never know whose day you’ll brighten. 💛
