🌹 Remembrance at Caer Gwent 🌹

Residents at our Caer Gwent care home marked Remembrance Day in a truly beautiful way. They created handmade poppy wreaths, each with personal messages of reflection and remembrance. ❤️

Volunteer Sue joined us to read a series of moving war poems, followed by uplifting verses that brought comfort and hope to all.

It was a touching and heartfelt tribute from everyone at Caer Gwent. 🌺

Edward’s Journey: Cycling from Istanbul to Brighton for Guild Care

Edward, originally from Horsham and now living in the Worthing area, is cycling home from Istanbul to Brighton to raise money for Guild Care.

His grandfather Doug, aged 87, recently moved from the Midlands to Durrington. Doug was a keen cyclist in his youth, but even he admits he would never have taken on such a challenge.

When Edward announced he planned to cycle home as part of his travels, his family thought he might start from France or Germany, not Istanbul. Doug says Edward is made of true grit, and we couldn’t agree more!

Edward left the UK in February and has travelled through Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Nepal, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkey, Bulgaria, Serbia, Hungary, Austria, Czechia, Germany and now Sweden, with a small detour to visit a friend he met on his journey.

He began cycling in Istanbul on what he calls his “hunk of junk” bike, which he bought for about 100 euros. When his family found out, they offered him £800 to buy something better, but Edward stuck with his bargain bike until it broke down. It wasn’t built for such a long ride, with a sticking brake and a chain that kept falling off, but he kept going and even promised to return his friend’s bike once he gets home.

Along the way, Edward has faced dog attacks in Turkey, survived on just £5 a day, and slept most nights in a hammock or sleeping bag, occasionally being taken in by kind strangers. Despite having little cycling experience before this trip, he’s now covering the equivalent of the famous London to Brighton Bike Ride and back TWICE a day.

Edward is expected home around early November. His determination and spirit have inspired everyone following his incredible journey.

We at Guild Care are so proud and excited for Edward and everything he has achieved.
We couldn’t support over 3,000 people in the local area without people like him.
Those who go the extra mile, quite literally, to help make a difference.

🎉 Wow, what a fabulous September we’ve had! 🍂

From adorable visits with Our Amazing Animal World to wonderful trips out to the WWT Wetlands in Arundel, we’ve certainly made the most of the sunshine! ☀️ We’re already looking forward to visiting again in the spring.

We also had lovely visits from our local toddler group and enjoyed plenty of fun activities together 👶💛

Last week we took a trip to Haskins Garden Centre to see their Christmas display — and we were not disappointed! 🎄✨ It’s safe to say Christmas has officially arrived there.

Now that we’re in October, we’re embracing the autumn spirit with Halloween crafts and beautiful autumn wreaths made by our residents to decorate their doors 🍁🎃

There’s lots more fun to come this month — and in November, we’ll be kicking off our festive celebrations with our Christmas Fayre! 🎅 Keep an eye out for the date and time — we hope to see many of you there! 💕

🚴‍♂️ Ed’s Epic Ride: From Istanbul to Brighton – Update from Vienna!

Ed Clark has officially made it to Vienna on his incredible cycling journey from Istanbul to Brighton – and what a ride it’s been so far!!

Just a few days ago, Ed faced one of his toughest moments yet: 66km into Day 13, his wheel finally gave out after days of pushing on with broken spokes. It was unrideable. But in true Ed style, he turned a setback into a story finding shelter outside a local shop, sharing drinks with locals, and eventually making his way (by taxi in the wrong direction!) to get the bike fixed.
The journey is testing him, but his resilience is shining through every kilometre.

On day 19, 90km into their journey, Ed and Byron finally arrived in Budapest - the end of the road for Byron, whose part in the ride concluded there. After sharing countless miles and moments, Byron’s friendship had been a constant source of support and motivation. Before parting ways, Ed swapped his bike for a pump and continued the journey on Byron’s dream machine.

Ed continued on solo, where today, he’s enjoying a well-earned rest in Vienna with a special boost: a visit from his amazing dad, Rob! 💙

Ed is cycling the equivalent of London to Brighton almost every single day, with only a few rest stops in between. And he’s doing it all to raise money for Guild Care, supporting people in our community who need it most.

We’re in awe of Ed's strength, spirit, and generosity and so touched that he’s chosen our charity to support on this phenomenal adventure.

We’re rooting for you all the way to Brighton, Ed!
