🏠The June Sutherland Chapel🏠

The time has come, after 9 months of hard work our renovation is complete and we are ready to open the doors of the next chapter for Ian Hart Funeral Service.

Next Thursday and Friday Ian and his team will be at the former conservative hall to welcome in residents of the local area to come and see what we have been doing, and what we are going to be able to offer.

As well as giving you a chance to put a face to the name, our in-house caterers Adrian and Kerry will be onsite serving their show stopping food so come hungry!😋

Our funeral director Jane met with a lovely lady called Nikki this week, who runs a voluntary group called The Crafty Angels.

They make baby gowns from donated wedding dresses for babies that have sadly passed away. Each gown comes with a bonnet, a blanket, 2 hearts and 2 knitted teddies (one kept with baby and one given to the parents).

Please see below photos of the thoughtful items they hand craft.

The Crafty Angels also make and knit items for orphanages in the Ukraine. They make pillows for patients receiving treatment for Breast Cancer at St Richard’s Hospital and knit many items for hospitals in Sussex for premature babies as well as supporting lots of other charities and organisations.

We would really like to help support this great cause and will inform our families of this wonderful organisation.

The caterers were so lovely and the food delicious. The Gordon Chapel is a really lovely venue. It was so nice to feel completely unhurried and to have everything on-site. The chapel had a lovely feel, and for me it was so nice to be able to say goodbye to Kathie at the end of the service and not have to endure the dreaded mechanical curtain closing around the coffin. It felt so much more personal and human than any crematorium funeral I have ever attended.”

Company Director Sue Hart and Funeral Director Sam Hart had a lovely Friday evening out at the Friends of Sussex Hospices 30th anniversary dinner.

The charity does incredible work locally, having provided £3.8m worth of support to our local hospices since the charity was formed.

Unfortunately we see first hand just how hard it is to run these facilities so the funds raised are vital for all involved.

As far as venues go, Lancing College was breathtaking! A big well done to Kathy Sambrook OBE and her team for putting on such a brilliant evening.

🔟A decade of the Gordon Chapel🔟

Today is a special day at IHFS as we celebrate 10 years of our Gordon Chapel.

A private, intimate setting for a funeral service, with a catering suite on site allows our families to give their loved ones a complete send off all in one location.

As well as being used to say goodbye, it has become an asset to the local community, hosting first aid courses, cricket AGM’s and various events for the Foxy Ladies Running Club.

As we embark on the next exciting project with the ‘June Sutherland Chapel’ nearing completion in East Preston, it is always an honour and a privilege to be entrusted with looking after families loved ones. 💚💛🎩

In response to the literature which has been distributed locally in the East Preston area

From when we originally enquired about the availability of the former Conservative Hall, we were keen to embark on the project after the success of our Gordon Chapel in Broadwater.

As a family we have been looking after other local families for over 100 years and in that time the concept of funerals has developed. Whilst there will always naturally be a degree of mourning, the aspect to celebrate a person’s life is equally now as important.

Like the Gordon Chapel, the June Sutherland Chapel will give local families the chance to celebrate their loved one, with the facilities to continue the celebration in the onsite catering suite.

On carrying out some local research we discovered that people were appreciative of the prospect of not having to travel to the Crematorium for a service as well as being able to say a final goodbye in the village without having to cross the railway line.

We will also be working with a number of local community organisations, for example The East Preston Horticultural Society, the East Preston Film Club and East Preston In Bloom as well as others who require a space outside of office hours, allowing the chapel to serve the community in every sense.

With our investment in the building we have ensured the former conservative hall will be an asset to the local village rather than sit empty or become a block of flats.

All the relevant permission has been obtained through the local authority and there has been a constant policy of transparency throughout the process, including attending the parish council meeting in March with our plans for the building.
Our site manager has been in contact with the neighbours to the building as well as talking to many pedestrians as they pass by.

🏠New Premises - East Preston🏠

Family Funeral Directors Ian and Sam Hart are delighted to announce the acquisition of 41 Sea Road, East Preston, formerly the Conservative Hall.

‘The Sutherland Chapel’ marks an exciting new chapter of the company history opening 10 years on from ‘The Gordon Chapel’.

With a purpose renovated 100 seater service chapel and on site catering suite, Ian and the team are able to offer the local community of East Preston and surrounding areas a private intimate setting to say goodbye in the heart of the village.

We can’t wait for this exciting new venture and will keep you all updated with how the new location is progressing.

Ian has always been a strong supporter of local sport, with his mantra always being “if kids are playing in a team they’re less likely to be causing trouble!”

It’s an absolute pleasure to sponsor our local cricket junior section and has been a delight to see the kids enjoying their first cricket festival on the Green.

Broadwater Cricket Club is unique, a little quirky, but full of amazing volunteers that are making a difference for these budding sports stars. The future is bright! ⭐️
