This advice comes from an excellent physiotherapist who works with athletes, but it holds true for anyone in recovery or rehab. The basic exercises might seem repetitive or dull, whether you’re working to return to golf, running, or gardening, but they are absolutely essential. Without a solid foundation of mobility and control, you won’t make progress. So, stay committed to your exercises—they’re the key to your recovery.

Be strong and conditioned to run. Pain is often due to weakness/poor control. Don’t stop running see a physio 😊

Be strong and conditioned to run. Pain is often due to weakness/poor control. Don’t stop running see a physio 😊

We’ve all heard the lines:

“Running is bad for your knees” and “don’t run if you have knee arthritis, it will make them worse”.

Many people heed this advice and stop.

Of course we see people who do struggle to run due to knee pain from Osteoarthritis and avoid it.

But that age old message of “stop running if you have knee arthritis”, shouldn’t be a blanketed approach, or a one size fits all, throw away line by medical or fitness professionals, coaches, friends and family based on outdated myths.

These two studies prove that running can actually help and improve the day to day function and pain in some runners.

As always it’s about each person individually and a tailored approach to returning to, or continuing to run.

As a Chartered physiotherapist I work under the rules of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and Public Health England. At present there has been no update for healthcare settings regarding face masks so there will be no changes at this time.
Thank you for continuing to wear a mask, sanitise your hands and not to attend an appointment if you feel unwell or have any COVID-19 symptoms. This will keep you, me and all my patients safe.

Missing the blue skies in Jordan ☀️
Training is hard in the wind and rain whether you are walking or running, doing 5km or 50km, but don’t let niggles or injuries stop you getting out. Get them addressed quickly so that you can enjoy being out in the sunshine when it arrives.

Face mask update.

The UK government announcement on 6 July 2021 signals an end to lockdown measures and the mandated use of face masks as of 19 July (in England).

The use of masks and other PPE guidance for all healthcare settings across the UK has not changed. This means that a healthcare practitioner will still use the most appropriate PPE for their environment. Patients will be asked to continue to wear masks and sanitise their hands.

Thank you for your understanding.

We are continuing to work as we have done with all COVID-19 precautions and full PPE.
If you have any concerns please call or email to discuss whether you would prefer a virtual consultation instead of a face to face, and what COVID-19 safety precautions we have in place.
