my name's Natalie and I am a

💭 Why Are Counselling Skills So Important? 💭

I get asked this question a lot — and it’s such a good one! 👇

Counselling skills are so much more than just techniques. They help create a safe, empathic environment where clients (or “helpies,” as we often say!) can really explore their feelings and gain a deeper understanding of themselves. 💬✨

But here’s something really special — while training, we also gain insights into our own behaviour as practitioners, helpers, or counsellors.

That self-awareness is incredibly powerful and helps us support others more effectively. 🌱

And the truth is… the only way to become confident and skilled in counselling is through practice.

The more we connect, reflect, and listen, the better we become at helping others. 💛

I’m one of the Level 5 tutors at CARA Counselling Training and I’ve got some exciting news… 🎉

📣 We’re launching a NEW Blended Level 5 Counselling CYP Diploma starting February 2026!

This course will be a mix of online and in-person learning — flexible, supportive and designed for those wanting to work with children & young people.

🎓 Level 4 in action!

Our group recently explored their functional ego states using the 5-Chair Technique — a powerful, reflective exercise used in counselling practice.

Even though the scenarios were fictional, the emotional insight was very real… and the group were genuinely amazed at how impactful it was. 🤯✨

🧠 This kind of experiential learning is a core part of Cara’s Level 4 Counselling training — not just theory from a book, but real practice that develops confidence, awareness and skill.

Tonight we’re all wrapped up warm watching the sparks fly and the sky light up ✨ — and it’s a great reminder of how our thoughts and emotions can sometimes do the same.

In Cara Counselling Training, we teach students how to notice those inner “sparks” — the triggers, the reactions, the ego states — before they turn into full-blown fireworks 🎇.
