I often get asked how Bach Flower remedies work, I love explaining it because it is such a beautiful, gentle system.

The remedies work on an energetic level, helping to restore balance between mind and emotions. Each of the 38 remedies relates to a specific feeling or mood such as fear, worry, uncertainty or overwhelm.

When you take a personal blend it helps to gently shift how you feel bringing your emotions back into harmony. They don’t block or suppress what you’re feeling instead they support you in understanding and moving through those emotions more easily.

Because they work so subtly with your body’s own energy they’re completely natural, safe and can be used alongside other treatments or medication.

It’s about helping you find your way back to calm, balance and emotional well being naturally 🌸

Bach flower essences are far from prescriptive in their application. Bach firmly believed that every single person responds differently to disease and that the solution was equally individual.

This ethos reinforces the need not only for self-awareness but self-compassion too. The path of healing asks for rigorous investigation without judgement, so that space is available to process. If we can show ourselves compassion, we can begin to live with more compassion generally. This highlights the subtle and intricate webs that support well being in every aspect of life.

As people have learnt and worked with Bach’s system, an equally diverse approach to using the essences has emerged.

In a Journey into Healing, we explore the history of the essences and how they can be used. Featuring many practitioners offering different viewpoints, this film offers practical insight into the world of Bach flower essences.

“To find the herb that will help us we must find the object of our life, what we are striving to do, and also understand the difficulties in our path.” Free Thyself, Collected Writings of Edward Bach p.127

Clematis seed heads are blowing in the autumn breezes amongst the hedgerows.

Unlike many plants that release their seeds easily, Clematis holds tightly onto these, wind-dispersed, seeds through many autumn storms.

Bach said of these seeds that they “are always longing to be blown away”. In this he saw a lack of interest in the present, a dreamy state contrasted with a will to hold on.

The flowers are white meaning they reflect the whole colour spectrum back and absorb nothing. This speaks of the dream state of the Clematis type. The flowers are without petals which speaks to a lack of direction, something seen in Wild Oat and Scleranthus too.

It is no surprise then that Clematis is within the emotional group for Insufficient interest in present circumstances. Yet the will to persist speaks of a deeper purpose and vision that can emerge if given space.

In this video, Julian Barnard investigates how the form of Clematis brings insight to those seeking the object of their life. https://www.bachflowerlearning.com/the-language-of-plants/clematis/

Peeling the layers. We can never know precisely what may be hidden in the layers of emotions that we’ve spent decades covering up as a defence mechanism or coping strategy to deal with situations and relationships that have left their mark. With the Bach flowers, you don’t need to go digging for those imprints. You simply listen to how you feel right now, in this present moment. Willow resentment? Heather neediness? Holly spite? Or any of the other Bach flowers….

Unhealed emotions can, as time goes on, become embodied and contribute to destabilising our health. If after difficult times you have a tendency to just push on with things, rather than allowing yourself the quality of time and attention you need to holistically heal, you may be surprised by what is still with you. In my own experiences of deeply embedded ‘flower states’ I’ve discovered some (including Sweet Chestnut) when coming around after surgical intervention — which is an extreme way to discover them. Not recommended! However, certainly a catalyst to become more tuned in to the wake-up calls when there is a lot going on in life, and adjusting and taking the flower mix as required.

When you take your drops on a regular basis, they will gently do their work in helping you to resolve your current imbalances and reveal the next layer. And so you progress, learning about yourself, recognising what you need to heal, let go of, reconcile, forgive, love….

None of us are the finished masterpiece, we are each a work in progress, layer by layer, emotion by emotion until, as Dr Bach said, the soul and personality are in harmony and all is joy and peace, happiness and health.

What layers have been revealed to you on your healing journey? 🌺

Gentian is a delicate purple-blue wildflower that thrives in open meadows and grassy hillsides. Despite its fragile appearance, it grows in challenging conditions often on poor or rocky soil. This resilience reflects the essence of the remedy itself reminding us of our inner strength and ability to keep blooming even when life feels tough.

Gentian is the remedy for those times when setbacks, disappointments or delays leave you feeling discouraged and doubtful. It’s for when you’ve lost faith in your progress and feel like giving up too soon.

In the Twelve Healers Dr Bach wrote ‘Those who are easily discouraged. They may be progressing well in illness or in the affairs of their daily life but any small delay or hindrance to progress causes doubt and soon disheartens them’

Gentian helps lift the cloud of doubt, restoring optimism, trust and perseverance. Instead of feeling defeated by obstacles you begin to see challenges as temporary and find the inner strength to keep moving forward.
