Easter offers a moment to pause, reflect, and appreciate the people and communities around us. It’s also a time to recognise the continued dedication of those working across health and social care, many of whom will be supporting others throughout the bank holiday.

Your commitment, compassion, and professionalism do not go unnoticed.

We hope this Easter brings you a sense of renewal, a little time to recharge, and moments of connection with those who matter most.

💡 Did you know?
Down Syndrome Awareness

Down syndrome is a genetic condition caused by an extra copy of chromosome 21. This is why World Down Syndrome Day is held on 21/3 each year.

People with Down syndrome may experience:
• Differences in learning and development
• Unique communication styles
• Some increased health risks (such as heart conditions or thyroid issues)

However, it is important to remember that no two people with Down syndrome are the same.

With the right support, people with Down syndrome can:
✔ Work and contribute to their communities
✔ Build meaningful relationships
✔ Live active, fulfilling lives
✔ Continue learning throughout adulthood

For carers and support workers, the most important thing is to see the person first not the condition.

Small things make a big difference:
💬 Taking time to communicate clearly
🧠 Encouraging independence
🤝 Supporting choice and dignity

Inclusive care starts with understanding.

World Down Syndrome Day Awareness Post

Tomorrow is 🌏 World Down Syndrome Day - 21 March

Tomorrow we celebrate inclusion, respect, and the value that people with Down syndrome bring to our communities.

People with Down syndrome are individuals first with their own personalities, talents, ambitions, and dreams. Like everyone else, they deserve opportunities to learn, work, build relationships, and live fulfilling lives.

In health and social care, awareness and understanding are key. When we take the time to understand someone’s communication style, support needs, and strengths, we create environments where people can truly thrive.

A small symbol for tomorrow is wearing mismatched or colourful socks 🧦 a reminder that being different is something to be celebrated, not hidden.

At Altriss ASC Training, we believe inclusive care starts with knowledge, empathy, and respect.

World Down Syndrome Day is a wonderful reminder that diversity strengthens our communities.

💙 Celebrate difference. Promote inclusion. Support dignity.

One of the things that we love most about delivering training here at Altriss ASC is seeing staff leave feeling more confident than when they arrived.

Over the next couple of weeks we will be delivering First Aid, Mental Health First Aid, Safeguarding and Medication Administration training.

We read some really lovely messages this week. 💜

When we attended the International Women’s Day event, we asked people to write down something they’ve learned that they would like to pass on to others.

Each message was folded into a little heart and placed in the jar for someone else to discover.

It was so nice reading through them. There were reminders to slow down and appreciate life, to be unapologetically yourself, and to surround yourself with the right people.

Sometimes the simplest messages are the ones we all need to hear.

🌍🦻 World Hearing Day 🦻🌍

Today is World Hearing Day, a global reminder that hearing health matters at every stage of life.

Over 1.5 billion people worldwide live with some degree of hearing loss and that number is rising.

In health and social care, untreated hearing loss can lead to:

⚠️ Social isolation
⚠️ Increased risk of anxiety and depression
⚠️ Higher risk of cognitive decline
⚠️ Reduced independence
⚠️ Communication breakdown and safeguarding concerns

Hearing loss isn’t always obvious. Signs can include:

- Frequently asking others to repeat themselves
- Turning the TV volume up higher than usual
- Withdrawing from conversations
- Saying “I’m fine” but appearing confused
- Struggling more in noisy environments

Early recognition and support makes a significant difference.

As professionals, carers, family members and friends we all have a role to play in:

- Promoting hearing checks
- Supporting the correct use and maintenance of hearing aids
- Reducing stigma around hearing loss
- Creating communication-friendly environments

Hearing care is health care.

Let’s continue to ensure that nobody feels unheard.
