Seasonal cycles are most tangible examples of how we are part of much greater living and breathing organism. These ever changing rhythms have big impact on all life on the planet, governing the growth of plants, animals and other life forms. With each season there is constant shift of conditions that have a distinct effect on our metabolism. After hot and dry summer, cold and rough months are a good opportunity for our bodies to replenish, rebuild and grow.
How can we naturally support our health in Vata season?
💨 fresh, local food at all times of year will support your state of balance
💨 best to eat simply prepared regular meals (with all 6 tastes: sweet, sour, salty, pungent, astringent, bitter)
💨 consume your meals warm with attitude of gratitude, for best support of your Agni - digestive capacity
💨 Ayurveda teaches that ‘like increases like and the opposites bring balance’ so to balance cold, dry, hard Vata, we need to take in about warm, moist and well lubricated foods with slight increase of sweet, salty and sour flavours
💨 use oils like ghee or sesame for deeper lubrication and warmth
💨 keep your airway passage clear with regular neti pot nostril and sinus rinse
💨 relaxing self oil massage ‘abhyanga’ is a great nourishing practice for the whole body; supports proper circulation, lymph drainage, improves sleep pattern and softens the skin
💨 silent time and regular meditation practice brings about Sattva (harmony, clarity and peace)
💨 warm colours like golds, yellows and reds will help to harmonise Vata
💨 honour your body’s needs to stay connected and grounded through seasonal changes
Remember that LITTLE GOES A LONG WAY. Choosing even one practice that you can commit to regularly, can bring positive long lasting effect!
