At Haine & Smith we believe that your relationship with us doesn’t end when you have your eye examination or buy glasses or contact lenses; this is where it begins. We’ve created this page so you can keep up to date with all our latest news and offers, talk about eye health and the latest frame styles, as well as share your experiences and ideas. We’d love you to post a comment or query and will always try to reply to your questions as soon as possible. We will be on-hand between 9:00am and 5:00pm, Monday to Friday (excluding bank holidays), so please bear with us if you post outside of these times. To ensure this page is a pleasant place for all of us, we kindly ask that you respect the following guidelines:

As we celebrate Bonfire Night, let’s keep the fun safe for our eyes! Fireworks, smoke, and sparklers are exciting, but they can be dangerous if precautions aren’t taken:

🎆 Fireworks: Always follow instructions, keep a safe distance, and never point them at anyone.

🎇 Sparklers: Hold at arm’s length, wear gloves, and supervise children closely.

💨 Smoke & debris: Avoid standing too close to bonfires or smoke, which can irritate your eyes.

While you're enjoying costumes, face paint, and novelty contact lenses, remember to keep your eyes safe:

🎨 Face paint: Always use products labelled safe for the eye area. Avoid applying too close to your eyes to prevent irritation.

👗 Costumes: Masks and accessories should not obstruct your vision or poke near your eyes.

👁️ Novelty contact lenses: Only purchase from eye care professionals and ensure they are prescribed for your eyes. Never share lenses with others!

👀🎃 Spooky contacts aren’t worth the scare!

Thinking of completing your Halloween look with cheap, coloured contact lenses? 👁️ Here’s why you should think twice:

❌ Unregulated lenses bought online or from costume shops may not meet safety standards.

❌ They can cause eye infections, scratches, allergic reactions, or even serious vision loss.

❌ Contact lenses should always be fit and supplied by a qualified optometrist or contact lens optician to ensure they’re safe for your eyes.

✨ Your eyes aren’t replaceable, no costume is worth risking your sight!

Did you know that in the 2 weeks following the clocks going back, car crashes rise by 11% (www.theaa.com). Government statistics show that 14% of drivers have been involved in collisions or near misses due to low sun glare, and up to 15% of all night accidents are caused by headlight glare.

So, how can Haine & Smith help?

👁️ Special coatings that help to reduce the impact of nighttime glare are available on all our lenses, and we recommend good-quality polarised sunglasses for that low winter sun.
