Improving pit crew performance

Biomechanics: The Unsung Advantage in LMP2 Pit Crew Performance

In LMP2 racing, fast pit stops matter — but healthy, efficient movers matter more. As a human performance coach, my priority is making sure every crew member can deliver speed without sacrificing their body.

Here’s what we zero in on:

Movement Quality Under Load

We analyse joint angles, lifting mechanics, footwork, and tool handling to ensure every action is powerful, efficient, and safe.

Asymmetry & Overuse Patterns

Pit crew roles create predictable imbalances. Identifying and correcting these reduces injury risk and boosts consistency.

High‑Risk Zones

Lower backs, shoulders, knees, and forearms take the brunt of the workload. We build resilience where it matters most.

Fatigue‑Driven Technique Breakdown

Good mechanics don’t count unless they hold up in hour 8. We train for stability, control, and precision under fatigue.

Role‑Specific Strength & Mobility

Each position has unique biomechanical demands. Tailored training keeps performance high and injuries low.

The Result

Better biomechanics mean fewer injuries, more consistency, and pit stops that stay fast all season — not just when the crew is fresh.

PREPPING a driver for battle starts long before race day, and involves more than just keeping them cool with a bottle and umbrella.

As a coach we look after elements including strength and cardio conditioning, flexibility, nutrition, hydration, sleep, jet lag mitigation, injury and heat management and dealing with normal life stuff that might be going on.

On the outside we aim to keep calm and cool but underneath our brains are watching, evaluating and processing several things at once all day!

All with the sole purpose of keep the driver and team ready to go!

6 hours of physiology tests, fitness assessments, movement screening and reaction drills.

Why Racing Drivers Need Cardiovascular training in Pre‑Season

Racing isn’t just about skill — it’s a full‑body endurance sport, whether it’s Karting or full time Professional competition

Drivers often sit at 150–180 bpm for long periods, all while dealing with heat, G‑forces, and constant decision making.

A strong cardio base keeps you sharp, consistent, and mentally locked in from lights out to the final lap.

How to Build It:

• Steady endurance work:
Running, cycling, rowing
45–60 min at 60–75% max HR

• HIIT sessions:
Bike sprints, rowing intervals
20–30 min with efforts at 85–95% max HR

Build the engine now so you can perform when it counts!
