Yesterday I met Health Minister Karin Smyth for Bristol South at St George’s Surgery in Worle (part of Mendip Vale Medical Group) to see how AI is transforming healthcare in our community.
David, the Practice Manager, spoke about how AI tools are helping cut down waiting times for patients trying to get appointments and, better, more informative and useful notes. The AI tools are speeding up everything from patient letters to handling day-to-day admin. This technology isn’t about replacing people; it’s designed to give clinicians more face-to-face time with patients. With over 9,000 appointments booked in June alone, most being same-day, the impact is undeniable. This is my GP surgery, I've absolutely noticed improvements in simple but important things like the time to get through by phone in the morning and how quickly prescriptions can be processed by the NHS app.
Using innovation and tech to make our lives better are important to me, they are transforming our lives, and we need to be as informed and in control as possible. Whether it’s empowering youth through our Weston Summer School, supporting local digital businesses, or backing smart NHS breakthroughs like this that help everyone.
St George’s is leading the way in safe, effective AI in healthcare right here. With the right investment and robust protections, this is how we ease pressure on staff, enhance patient care, and create a future-ready NHS in Weston.
