Do you have an interest in health research?
We are looking for volunteers to help drive our new Mobile Research Unit - the lovely team visited Eat Yeovil in November and would like your help to take the MRU to more community locations. The MRU is based at Musgrove Park Hospital so ability to travel to MPH is essential.

One of our volunteers Fen is completing a challenge of giving back to the NHS in volunteering as many hours as she spent in hospital in 2020, not really realising how many hours there are in 11 weeks: 1848!!

She helps with vaccination clinics and since 2023 has also volunteered in Yeovil Hospital Intensive Care Unit.

From Fen: "I’m hoping to complete my challenge by the end of this year and would really like to celebrate getting there by fundraising for the Beacon Centre at Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton. This is the cancer centre where one of the lovely Yeovil ICU nurses, Jo, who looked after me, is now being treated and where I used to work."

WELCOME TO OUR FABULOUS NEW VOLUNTEERS! 🤩🤩🤩
We are very happy to announce the start of our new volunteer team at BWH. A recent recruitment drive led by Izzy Legg (PA and Senior Administrator) and supported by the Trust volunteer coordinator Anne Suosilta (at the left of the picture) has led to a new volunteer team at the hospital. This means that hospitals users are welcomed most weekday mornings and afternoons by a friendly volunteer who will help them to find their way to their appointment or help in whatever way they can. They are also helping on the ward.

Please stop and talk to our volunteers and make them feel welcome, as they are a very valuable part of our team>

We had a busy office this morning with some of our lovely volunteers completing their mandatory training.

As a team we are here to support our volunteers and will do whatever we can to help, whether that's providing them with a laptop to use in hospital, supporting them on their own device or just being around in case they have any questions during the training.

We have a new role within our mental health teams at Yeovil Hospital and Musgrove Park Hospital.

We are in need of volunteers to support our Psych Liaison Team (PLT) to visit their patients, offering a friendly ear, support in identifying activities that they can complete on discharge, applicable to those individuals.

As a Mental Health Visiting Companion you will be a part of a wider team, but working independently, with support from PLT. You will need to be confident with talking to new people and able to make small talk.

With working and supporting patients with PLT, they could be in for a number of reasons, including infections, surgery, self harming etc. This is something you will be supported with by the team, however resilience will be something you will need to complete this role.

Shifts at Yeovil Hospital are Tuesdays or Thursdays 1 - 4.30pm

Shifts at Musgrove Park Hospital are Monday, Wednesday or Friday 1 - 4.30pm.

introduction

Hi everyone,

My name is Sam Bracher and I am the Youth Volunteer Coordinator at Yeovil District Hospital,

Working with young people and enabling them to acheive thier potential is a huge passion of mine, and it is an absolute privilege to be able to carry out this work here at YDH.

We have been lucky enough to have recieved funding from the PEARS foundation in order to run a youth volunteering scheme (more information via link below) and I am currently working with local schools, colleges, youth groups and staff here at the hospital to set up and run 8 week programs over the year for young volunteers to come on board. Not only to give assistance in many areas of the hospital, but also gain an enormous amount of new life long skills by volunteering here at YDH.
