Remembrance Sunday

Today, our Front of House Manager Jess attended the service at St Michael & All Angels Church on behalf of all our residents and staff, joining our local community in a morning of reflection and remembrance.

We had the honour of reading a poem and laying a wreath on behalf of everyone at Potter House — a moment of quiet respect to remember those who served and sacrificed for our freedom.

Many of our residents chose to stay in the warmth of the home, where they watched the BBC coverage of the Cenotaph service together. Our tribute was shared both within the home and in the wider community, ensuring we all took time to remember in our own way.

It was a solemn and meaningful occasion, bringing together residents, staff, and members of the community to ensure that we never forget.

“At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them.”

🎷✨ Happy National Saxophone Day! ✨🎷

Believe it or not, there really is such a thing as National Saxophone Day — so of course, we used it as the perfect excuse to fill Potter House with plenty of smooth sax tunes today! 🎶

We’ve been celebrating Adolphe Sax, the brilliant inventor of the saxophone, by listening to some classic jazz favourites featuring iconic saxophone solos, including:
🎵 Take Five – Dave Brubeck Quartet
🎵 In the Mood – Glenn Miller
🎵 Moanin’ – Charles Mingus
🎵 A Night in Tunisia – Charlie Parker

It’s been a wonderfully relaxing and toe-tapping afternoon for our residents — full of swing, smiles, and great conversation. 💛

🎆✨ Remember, remember the 5th of November... ✨🎆

Although we won’t be having a bonfire here at Potter House, our residents have been enjoying reminiscing about Bonfire Nights from their childhood — sparklers, toffee apples, and wrapping up warm to watch the skies light up! 💛🔥

It’s been so lovely hearing everyone’s memories and the different traditions they remember from growing up. ❤️

As a little treat, our marvellous chef’s made these bonfire inspired cupcakes for our residents to enjoy whilst hopefully watching the local displays🧁

Wishing everyone a safe and sparkling Bonfire Night from all of us at Potter House Care Home! 🎇

🥰November means connection at Fabric Sewn Beautiful

Making my way BACK to the gorgeous Potter House Care Home Oyster Care Homes this week to make some beautiful poppy hearts.

At each workshop I try to either match it to a special date or season. While always making gifts they can use in their daily life.

With these hearts, residents will be able to choose from a selection of fabric and also poppies I have pre-embroidered.
Making each one completely unique to them as an individual.
Hearts will then be sewn, leaving a small opening for them to gently fill it with lavender.

So only only a beautiful creation, but a personal one to showcase their individuality.
PLUS lavender is a natural and calming scent which releases it's aroma overtime gently relaxing you and your body. So perfect as a bedside decoration to help them sleep, ease discomfort on body aches and remind them this precious date, to remember those we lost.

🚜 A great day out at Countrymen UK Dorset! 🌾

Our gents had a fantastic trip to Countrymen UK at Ryland Farm last week - touring the facilities, getting hands-on with some of the farm activities, and enjoying a good old-fashioned cuppa and a proper manly chat! ☕👨‍🌾

It was wonderful to see everyone out in the fresh air, sharing stories and laughter together. Huge thanks to the team at Countrymen UK for such a warm welcome - we’re already looking forward to our next visit! 🌿🤝

Our residents have been busy getting ready for Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day, with poppies now being distributed throughout Potter House. ❤️

We’ve proudly supported the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal this year, donating so that each of our residents can wear a poppy as a mark of respect and remembrance.

We also have poppies available for members of the public to collect from our reception - including the limited edition 2025 poppies. 🌺

It’s always such a meaningful time in our home, as we come together to reflect, remember, and honour those who have served. We’ll be observing the two-minute silence together on Sunday, as we pause to remember the bravery and sacrifice of all those who gave so much.
