Our York based residential care homes & recovery services provide a therapeutic community setting, encouraging the development, well-being, and independence of our residents. We strive to minimise the impact mental illness can have on an individual, thereby affording them the best quality of life achievable.

Peter recently joined a session at The Hut York - Members Led Charity called “Nature in a Drop”, where he explored different scents and created his own aromatherapy oil.

Peter is visually impaired, but that never stops him getting involved in the activities he enjoys. Being able to smell and experience the different oils meant he could fully take part and create something personal to take home.

He also attends Wandering Minds, a guided meditation session he really enjoys. His handmade oil is now used during relaxation evenings back at The Dexters.

Monday afternoons at The Dexters mean baking club, and this week it was pizza night!

Residents got hands-on making their own dough, stretching and rolling out bases, and choosing their favourite toppings before assembling their pizzas for tea.

It’s more than just cooking. It’s about creativity, learning new skills, and enjoying time together around the table.

This Valentine’s Day, our residents turned up the music and celebrated community, connection, and a whole lot of joy at our disco.

Because sometimes recovery looks like laughter, glitter, and dancing like nobody’s watching.

A great session out playing badminton today. Lots of movement, laughter, and encouragement, with everyone getting involved at their own pace. Moments like these remind us how powerful shared activity and connection can be in recovery.

Amitola joined forces with The Hut York - Members Led Charity to host a Valentine’s Disco, bringing together our clients and members of the wider community for an evening full of music, laughter, and connection.

It was wonderful to see so many people dancing, smiling, and simply enjoying being together. Events like this remind us that community matters and that celebration, inclusion, and belonging should be part of everyone’s story.

A huge thank you to The Hut York and to everyone who made the evening so special.

Two of our residents enjoyed a day trip to the coast, taking in the fresh sea air and spending some quality time together. A change of scenery, good conversation, and a slower pace made it a really special day.

A very special celebration as one of our residents marked his 73rd birthday 🎂

Having lived at Gravers Care Home since 1987, it was lovely to come together to celebrate such an important milestone with him. A day full of smiles, candles, and cake.
