It’s always a pleasure to welcome The Purple Pig Company into Provence House with their gorgeous animals! 🐷

Our residents absolutely love the opportunity to cuddle, stroke and groom the animals. These visits bring so much joy and have such a calming and therapeutic effect.

Animal therapy is incredibly important in residential care and can be especially rewarding for those living with dementia, offering comfort, connection and often evoking cherished memories. Moments like these truly warm our hearts.

Our garden team are honoured to become custodians of one of the Sycamore Gap saplings 🌱

The sapling has been gifted to Dementia Forward, a wonderful charity which is close to our hearts given all they do to provide support and raise awareness of dementia both within the local community and beyond. This sapling represents hope, support and new beginnings for those living with dementia in our community.

Our garden team will now nurture it until it's ready for its new home. Thank you Dementia Forward for entrusting us with your tree of hope.

🎶💃 What a joyful time at Lavender Fields Care Village! 🕺🎶

We were delighted to welcome back the brilliant Emma from Starbrite Studios Ltd for her wonderful Boogie 4 Your Bones class yesterday. Our residents had a fantastic time enjoying the music while stretching, moving, and mobilising with some fun dance moves.

Exercise in later life is just as important and this session was the perfect opportunity to move, smile, and be merry together. A big thank you to Boogie 4 Your Bones for bringing so much energy and happiness to our home! 💛

Choosing the right care for a loved one can feel overwhelming. Hearing directly from families who have lived that experience matters.

“When my wife joined Provence House, she had been a different Care Home spent on the ground floor with all the other residents (unless she had visitors) She had no personal room to retire to during the day. There was little opportunity for entertainment and therapy. To walk into Provence for the first time was a wonderland where the rooms were all on ground floor. They were all built and equipped extremely well, and the corridors, lounges and dining room were all access for activities and therapy.

The staff at all levels of responsibility were friendly and well trained and kind to the residents. My wife would take advantage of all activities and amused herself whether in viewing TV alone or socially with music and energetic movement.

Despite diagnosed Alzheimer's, my wife improved mentally and physically, in her own ways and spoke many times that she loved the Home and my opportunity for visits to spend many hours together.

Thank you all.”

This month we are delighted to recognise Wayne Kelsey as our Employee of the Month.

Wayne brings calm, kindness and professionalism to everything he does. He has a natural way of putting people at ease and shows genuine care in every interaction. Over the past month in particular, he has gone above and beyond to support residents, especially when they are feeling unsettled or anxious. His good humour, patience and quiet dedication make a real difference every day, and we are very grateful to have him as part of our team.

Congratulations, Wayne, and thank you for everything you do.

It has been a lovely few days here at Lavender Fields.

We were delighted to welcome a visitor from the Police Museum, who brought along a fascinating collection of police equipment from across the years. Residents enjoyed seeing, touching and talking about the items, with plenty of stories and smiles shared along the way.

We also had a very special birthday celebration for our wonderful Brenda, complete with cake, candles and lots of love.

Thank you to everyone who helped make these moments so special for our residents.

Good care is not just about a room or a price. It is about access to clinicians, continuity of support, and the confidence that needs will be met as they change.

Michael shared his experience of Lavender Fields Care Village following his wife’s move into full-time care:

“We came to the care village in April 2025. Initial feeling was of making the right move for my wife, which soon proved to be correct as my wife’s health deteriorated quite rapidly.

I had meetings with the whole of the care home team and we drew up plans which varied according to my wife’s future needs and the speed of deterioration. At all stages I was never pushed into making a decision which was against my thoughts and wishes.

When my wife had to move into full-time care in November, I was given carte blanche for visits and even had the opportunity of staying overnight if my wife was particularly agitated. I cannot praise the staff highly enough for their skills and dedication.

Also the care wing has weekly visits from doctors and rapid response from the district nurses. In my view, this is the future of care for an ageing and infirm population.”

Leaving hospital doesn’t always mean someone is ready to manage at home.

For many families, the period after discharge can feel uncertain. There may be ongoing care needs, reduced confidence, or simply the need for time and reassurance before making longer-term decisions.

Short-term or transitional care can provide a supportive stepping stone, offering stability, routine and 24-hour support while recovery continues.

We’ve shared a helpful guide on what to consider when a loved one needs care after hospital discharge.
