πŸ“Œ Vitamin D Supplementation

The government have announced that vulnerable people in England will be offered a free vitamin D supplement this winter.

However should we all be supplementing with this fat soluble vitamin?

IN THIS COUNTRY YES.

The main source of vitamin D is through exposure to sunlight, and as the UK is in the northern hemisphere, it becomes increasingly difficult during winter months and all year round (dependant on how lucky we are in the summer months), to obtain sufficient vitamin D.

The vitamin, plays an active role in immune and muscle function as well as optimising bone health.

Overall, with a lot of the country spending even more time indoors than usual, it is essential, vulnerable or not that we all supplement with vitamin D.

It is recommended that the general public should take 400 international units (IU) per day, and athletes should take an increased amount of 500 (IU) daily.
