Babies get Bach! πŸ‘ΆπŸŽΆ

A new study published in PLOS Biology has found that newborns’ brains can anticipate rhythmic patterns in music, even while they sleep.

Researchers at the Italian Institute of Technology played piano sonatas by J.S. Bach to 49 dozing newborns and recorded their brain activity using electroencephalography (EEG). They then played them scrambled versions of the same music. When the music’s rhythm was disrupted, the babies’ brains responded, but they showed no reaction to broken melodies.

The findings suggest rhythm is present at birth, while melody develops later through experience.

🀩 You can tell when a little one has been coming to class weekly for nearly their whole life!
⭐️ Confident to sit at the front and face everyone!
⭐️ Trusts the class leader and wants to be close to them
⭐️ Knows how to hold the rhythm sticks and tap them together
⭐️ Is familiar with the routines and listens to the explanation

Keeping consistency helps children's cognitive development, allowing them to show you in moments like this what they have absorbed from all the previous weeks!

In this particular class, we have had significant moments recently where the children have demonstrated their amazing awareness and learning in a completely supportive environment. Just last week, we had a baby stand independently for the first time- whilst all the other families in the room cheered for him! Knowing the other babies and their families in the room keeps our classes safe and comforting, allowing everyone in the room to do their best ❀
