On 2nd December I took part in a truly transformative Yoga retreat run by the very wonderful Louise .louisehealingtree
The energy was amazing, and what was again reinforced for me is how special the link & connection between yoga and its philosophy is with the kind of somatics that I teach.
Essentially, both approaches are about remembering and reconnecting with our true self and restoring our autonomy and freedom. Both guide us to notice and release the layers of conditioning and compensation that build up through life, and that can very effectively take us away from our first nature.
Engaging with and exploring different methods at different times and giving yourself options of alternative ways of exploring yourself is so freeing. There is truly no right or wrong, merely more or less effective / nurturing.
The somatics I teach is all about restoring our function and reconnecting with our true selves, which makes exercise and other forms of movement more comfortable, more accessible and more effective.
If you’re meditating with a stiff and painful neck, you’re still going to have a stiff and painful neck by the end of it. If we can restore our function first by releasing the tension and then we meditate, it’s going to be so much deeper and more effective for us, because we’re not distracted by the pain in our neck.
Somatics is about preparing the foundation from which to embrace all of life. It’s about being present and being in the moment.
Thank you Louise for inviting me to collaborate with you and join your retreat, it was wonderful. I truly believe we teach more effectively and feel even more joy when we come together.
And a huge thank you to all the attendees! Thank you for being so welcoming and open to new ideas and new ways of exploring and connecting with yourselves.
