Today I hung up my NHS uniform. After 7 months back in blue working as a community midwife I've decided to fly solo once more.

It's been a great few months working with an amazing team of midwives and some really special patients and their babies.

But I've my business and my classes and working with families in a slightly different way.

I'm looking forward to relaunching my classes, courses and lactation support in the coming months!

Exciting times ahead but also a little sad this evening. So much of my who I am is linked to being a midwife. I have to remind myself that there are many ways to care and support families as a midwife and the NHS is not the only way! Onwards and upwards!

A few snipets from a lovely birth story about hypnobirthing and unplanned caesarean. This is a special one. These clients are from my last group hypnobirthing group and worked so incredibly hard at their mindset around birth. They went into birth positive, excited and prepared.

Their birth didn't go how they planned it to but they still came out feeling really positive about the experience. Sometimes intervention is needed and is essential for a safe birth.

You can read the full story in my blog. The link is in my bio.

Reintroduction time. I'm Rose, mum of 3, NHS community midwife, IBCLC and yoga enthusiast based in York.

I love birth! I love preparing people for birth so that they can feel powerful, so that they can feel confident in their body and so that they can make decisions that are right for them and for their babies.

I am passionate about physiological birth and homebirth but also about helping women to understand what they need to have the birth that they want. Every birth is different and every birth is special however it happens.

I've breastfed all 3 of my babies and am a qualified Lactation Consultant.

I live in York with my husband, 3 kids and cat Stevie.

I love running, being outside, eating cake and drinking tea. One day I dream of returning to Scotland and moving to the Isle of Mull.

We lived in Glasgow for 7.5 years where I birthed my babies and grew my business The Birthing Well.

I often over share, over think and worry about ridiculous things!

Check out my website for more information about me and my business.

After 8 fab years in Glasgow we've made the decision to move back down south to be closer to our families.

It's now only 5 weeks until we pack up all our stuff and head off on this next adventure.

So it's time to shut up shop for now. I'll be taking on a new job in the NHS come September and The Birthing Well will temporarily go on hold for a while whilst we settle in to our new home and city.

I have loved living and running my business here and am so grateful for all of my amazing clients who have made the last few years so wonderful.

It's going to be an emotional few weeks as I finish up with Hypnobirthing, breastfeeding clients and Bump and Baby Club and as we say goodbye to all our family and friends. But am really looking forward to the next chapter!

6 months old! Reflecting back on the past 6 months and how wonderful and hard they have been.

Most days we are surviving rather than thriving but amongst the exhaustion, overstimulation, breastfeeding challenges and general family chaos, my little gang are really bloody great.

Nearly 5 months since Arthur was born! Not sure where the time is going. I had hoped to do a monthly update on how we've been getting on but I've just not had the head space to be very present here.

I very much feel like we are deep in the trenches right now. The 4th trimester has been and gone but his sleep is terrible and I'm exhausted. Especially with the other 2 testing my patience as well.

Breastfeeding thankfully has finally settled down. I've previously suffered from recurrent mastitis but for the last few weeks things seem to be ok! (Hopefully I don't jinx it now!). I still have to pay close attention to his latch though.

The girls are settling into life as big sisters but we are managing lots of big emotions, especially from Edie who I think has found it the hardest.

Physically I feel pretty good, I'm exercising, doing yoga and enjoying getting outside. This is so important for my mental health. Unfortunately I have a pelvic organ prolapse which means I'm struggling to run at the moment but continuing with my rehab and really hope things improve. No baby wearing for me though.

Mentally I'm pretty good, having had postnatal depression with Edie I'm very aware of what helps me and what doesn't, keeping active, getting outside and being open with my family about how I'm feeling are a few of those things!

All in all we are doing pretty well, exhausted but happy and he's such a joyful baby which definitely helps!

Looking forward to easing back into work over the coming months.
