Our skin can change so much during peri-menopause and midlife.
All of a sudden, oily skin becomes dry, blemishes, irritation and redness appears when you never had an issue with this, your skin feels so much more sensitive, breakouts and hot-flushes are daily occurrences etc etc.
However, there is a lot we can do to support our largest organ and Cleansing, Toning, and Moisturising is highly recommended to maintain healthy skin.
Three steps that only take a few minutes to do!
Cleansing: Gently removes dirt, makeup, and impurities that build up on your skin throughout the day. Cleansing keeps your pores clear and helps to remove free radicals that can cause skin damage.
Toning: This is a fun one as so many people I know don't think this is important but actually, Toners help to rebalance your skin’s pH after cleansing, refresh your complexion, and remove any lingering impurities or residue. They also replenish moisture levels.
Moisturising: Locks in hydration, softens the skin, and helps maintain a balanced, nourished complexion. Moisturisers keep skin comfortable and protected against environmental stressors. They can include ingredients that soothe, calm, and strengthen the skin barrier, helping to regulate sebum and reduce inflammation.
And then there is SPF which all of us should use daily, Yep! I will leave this for another post but let me just mention this bit though:
Up to 80% of premature skin ageing is caused by UV exposure (World Health Organization). Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the UK, affecting 1 in 5 people. However, up to 90% of skin cancers are preventable with the right precautions.
My skin care routine is definitely a lot better than it has been and I wish I had known 20 years ago what I do know now about skincare as I hardly wore SPF and loved sunbathing...
