Hi friends! π±ππ»
As the weather is beginning to warm up (slowly), gardening is not only a wonderful way to connect with nature and enjoy the outdoors, but it's also great for our overall health and wellness. We wanted to share the seven tips for gardening that can help keep our bodies in tip-top shape! πͺπΌπΏ
1οΈβ£ Warm-up and stretch before you start: Just like any physical activity, gardening requires some warm-up exercises and stretches to loosen up your muscles and prevent strain or injury. Spend a few minutes stretching your arms, back, and legs, and do some gentle warm-up exercises to prepare your body for gardening.
2οΈβ£ Use proper posture and body mechanics: When you're gardening, it's important to maintain good posture and use proper body mechanics to avoid straining your back or other muscles. Bend your knees and use your leg muscles instead of your back when lifting heavy objects, keep your back straight while digging or weeding, and avoid repetitive motions that can strain your muscles.
3οΈβ£ Take breaks and switch tasks: Gardening can be physically demanding, so make sure to take regular breaks and switch tasks to avoid overworking one set of muscles. Alternate between activities like digging, planting, weeding, and watering to give different muscle groups a rest and prevent overuse injuries.
4οΈβ£ Use ergonomic tools: Invest in ergonomic gardening tools that are designed to reduce strain on your body. Look for tools with padded handles, long handles to reduce bending, and tools that are lightweight and easy to handle. Using the right tools can make a big difference in preventing injuries and promoting wellness.
5οΈβ£ Lift with your legs, not your back: When lifting heavy pots, bags of soil, or other objects, remember to lift with your legs, not your back. Bend your knees, keep your back straight, and use the strength of your leg muscles to lift objects from the ground. Avoid twisting or jerking motions while lifting, as it can strain your back.
6οΈβ£ Stay hydrated and wear protective gear: Gardening can be a sweaty activity, so make sure to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout your gardening session. Proper hydration is important for the health of your spinal soft tissues, especially the intervertebral discs (shock absorbers) between your spinal bones. Also, protect yourself from the sun by wearing a hat, sunglasses, and applying sunscreen. Use gloves to protect your hands from blisters and cuts, and wear appropriate footwear for support and stability.
7οΈβ£ Take care of your body with chiropractic care: Last but not least, don't forget to take care of your body with regular chiropractic care. Chiropractic adjustments can help align your spine, relieve muscle tension, and promote overall wellness. So, make sure to schedule regular visits with us to keep your body in optimal condition for gardening and other activities.
Happy gardening! π»πΏπ
