๐Ÿšจ Important: Meningitis (MenB) Vaccination Update ๐Ÿšจ

As you will be aware there has been an outbreak of meningococcal disease linked to Canterbury and the University of Kent.

If you are a student at the University of Kent or the University of Canterbury only, you may be eligible for a free MenB (Bexsero) vaccine (or have recently been in contact with affected groups or locations, including certain halls or a Canterbury nightclub between 5โ€“16 March). Please bring your student ID card when attending.

If youโ€™ve returned home and couldnโ€™t get vaccinated locally, your GP practice can now provide this on request.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Please contact your GP if you think you may be eligible
๐Ÿ‘‰ Bring student identification with you to your appointment
๐Ÿ‘‰ The vaccine requires 2 doses (second dose 28 days after the first)
๐Ÿ‘‰ Vaccination helps protect you and others

Stay aware of symptoms and seek urgent medical help if you feel unwell.

********MENINGITIS B UPDATE*****
Following the ongoing meningitis B outbreak in the South East of England we have received a large number of enquiries from people:
๐Ÿ’‰looking for the Meningitis B vaccine
๐Ÿค’concerned that they may have symptoms of Meningitis

๐Ÿ’‰All UK supplies of MenB vaccine were initially quarantined awaiting advice from UKHSA.

๐Ÿ’‰20,000 doses have now been released nationally to pharmacies to provide private vaccinations. This is roughly 2 doses per pharmacy.

๐Ÿ’‰๐Ÿ’‰๐Ÿ’‰๐Ÿ’‰At Monkbar Pharmacy, we have received 4 doses. These have already been allocated. We are hopeful of more supplies over the coming weeks and are working hard to obtain these.

๐Ÿ’‰If you would like to go onto our wait list please email contact@monkbarpharmacy.co.uk with the name, DOB, contact email and phone number of the person(s) wanting vaccinating and we will be in touch as soon as we have secured your vaccine.

๐Ÿ’‰Please note that MenACWY vaccine will NOT provide protection against the Meningitis B strain. MenACWY is offered routinely to Yr9 pupils. This vaccination remains available administration privately but has been temporarily disabled from our website booking due to several bookings made in error. If you would like to book this, please email the pharmacy to arrange this.

๐Ÿค’Symptoms of meningitis, septicaemia and meningococcal septicaemia can be found via a link in the comments below. If you are concerned that you, or someone you know, may have symptoms of meningitis it is important that you seek urgent medical advice.

๐Ÿ‘‚Also listen out on BBC York radio today, BBC York Breakfast Show on Monday and BBC Look North evening news program on Monday where our Pharmacist, Vikki, will be talking more about this and sharing more information.
