Did you know there was massage in the ancient world?
Here are five examples.
India 1500 B.CE. Keralite foot massage was part of the marma treatment method. It used one rope and two feet to massage sensitive points on the bodyโs energy lines.
China 2700 B.CE. Jade knuckles were used to massage the body and face. Jade was considered a symbol of health, purity, and beauty.
Babylon 1,700 B.CEE. The code of Hammurabi mentions a physician healing the diseased soft part of a man, which is an inference to manually treating soft tissues like muscles, tendons, and ligaments.
Egypt, 1,300 B.CE. This rendering of a painting shows King Tutโs wife anointing him with perfumed oil.
Indonesia 700 CE. This Buddhist temple in Java has a carved stone relief. The source text says, โLord Buddha receives a manual treatment which is an inference to massage.
