We’re calling on York’s businesses, community groups and quiz lovers to join us for a fun-filled quiz night on Wednesday 8 July — all to support the Tiny Lives Appeal! 💛

Hosted by York Sports Club, it’s the perfect chance to get a team together, enjoy pizza and chips, and take on some friendly competition while helping raise vital funds for babies cared for in the Neonatal Unit at York Hospital.

Teams of 4–6 can enter for £20 per person, with all proceeds helping us reach our £100,000 target to make the unit calmer, more comfortable and more family‑friendly.

If you fancy a great night out for an amazing cause, grab your teammates and book your spot at https://www.yshospitalscharity.org/support-us/quiz-night-for-tiny-lives

As we head closer to February half term we would like to remind you about the SCBU family passes we offer!

We hold day passes to either Askham Bryan Wildlife & Conservation Park and Beetle Bank Farm & Wildlife Sanctuary and we offer these out for FREE to any SCBU families, both past and present. They are both open over half term, and then going forward please check their websites to see opening days and times as they can vary!

There's plenty of availability throughout the next few months but we are starting to receive some bookings, so if you have a date in mind then please do get in touch to get booked in and enjoy a day out with your family. Simply email scbufamilydays@gmail.com and we’ll do the rest 😊🐐🐖🦆
(Please state the date you'd like on your email.)

If you have previously used the passes, you are more than welcome to take advantage again, assuming dates are available!

York Hospital SCBU has a temporary new home on Ward 12 👶

This planned move means we can carry out an exciting transformation of York’s Special Care Baby Unit, without disturbing vital care to our tiniest patients.

When complete, the new SCBU will be a modern, state-of-the-art environment where babies can grow stronger and healthier, with improved facilities to better support parents during their baby’s stay.

Where to find SCBU's temporary home:
1️⃣ Go to junction 5 on the main corridor
2️⃣ Take the lift or stairs to the first floor
3️⃣ Head toward Ward 12

The refurbishment is expected to finish in summer 2026, when SCBU will return to its newly upgraded home 💙

If you're interested in supporting our new facility, visit the York & Scarborough Hospitals Charity website to find out more about the Tiny Lives Appeal ➡️ https://www.yshospitalscharity.org/support-us/tiny-lives-appeal

The York Neonatal Unit is pleased to announce that renovation work on the ward will begin next week.

During this time, the unit will be temporarily relocated within the hospital. For the next few months, we will be based on Ward 12, as the SCBU unit will be out of use while the work is carried out.

We would like to reassure all parents that this temporary move will not affect the care their babies receive. The refurbishment will bring significant improvements and greatly enhance the experience for families.

The new ward will offer larger bed spaces, allowing parents to stay overnight with their baby. There will also be a dedicated counselling room, new facilities including reclining chairs, and improved parent accommodation such as two double bedsits. In addition, the unit will feature an accessible lounge and kitchen area, along with new accessible shower and toilet facilities.

We are very excited about these improvements and look forward to welcoming families into the new ward.
