GRNMA-GAR ELECTS MR. JEFFERSON ASARE DANQUAH AS IT'S SUBSTANTIVE REGIONAL CHAIRMAN

The long awaited elections of the Greater Accra Regional branch of the GRNMA finally came of on friday, the 20th of February 2026 at the regional secretariat, Zoti - Korle-bu.

10 delegates each from the 21 administrative districts of the region converged to fulfil this constitutional mandate which arose due the untimely demise of the late Regional Chairman, Elder Prince Opuni Frimpong.

Contesting in this elections were Squadron Leader Bismark Asare of the 37 Nursing and Midwifery Training College, Mr. Samuel Hanu of the Mental Health Authority, Mr. Prosper Kpobi from Korle-bu Teaching Hospital (who later pulled out of the contest), the acting Chairman of the region Mr. Jefferson Asare Danquah and Mr. Michael Narh from the Public Health Nursing school.
At the end of the voting, Mr. Jefferson Asare Danquah was crowned the winner as he beat his closest contender Sqd. Ldr. Bismark Asare by a convincing margin (141 votes - 63votes).

The newly elected Chairman in his acceptance speech extended an olive branch to all contestants, invited everyone to join hands with him to build the regional brand into an enviable one.

The 1st Vice President of the association , Mr. Samuel Alagkora Akolgo (Esq.) in giving his closing remarks admonished all regional executives to support the elected Chairman to achieve his vision.
He also used the moment to swear into office the 1st vice Chairperson of the region Ms. Kate Botchwey-Mensah and the appointed APRO of the region, Mr. Coleman Anani-Jr Adator.

2ND EDITION OF LOVE BREEZE HELD SUCCESSFULLY

It was all glamorous and a celebration of love as Nurses and Midwives across the region showed up with their loved ones at the 2nd edition of GAR-GRNMA's love breeze celebration.

Patrons were treated to good live band tunes from the Ghana armed forces band and the extra talented DJ jakes.

With vendors providing sumptuous meals and varieties of drinks, the atmosphere was truly an ecstatic one.

GAR - TEMA DISTRICT

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING AND GET-TOGETHER
The GRNMA Tema District held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Get-Together on 28th January 2026 at the In-Service Training Unit of the Tema General Hospital, bringing together members and Nurse Managers representing three (3) Municipalities made up of 21 Public and 4 Quasi facilities under the district.

The purpose of the gathering was to review the previous year’s activities, discuss the new year’s action plans and discuss association business. The District Chairperson, Ms. Victoria Anawoe in her welcome address gave an overview of activities held within the year 2025 with its challenges and achievements. Other topics presented included
1. Orientation of Newly Posted Staff
2. ⁠Infonet Updates and Uploads
3. ⁠PIN/AIN Renewal Process
4. ⁠Reminder of GRNMA Welfare
5. ⁠Presentation by First Merit

Also in attendance were Greater Regional Executive Committee led by the Acting Chairman, Mr. Jefferson Asare Danquah, Tema Metro Health Directorate DDNS, Mrs. Monica Afoakwah, Tema West Health Directorate DDNS, Mrs. Elizabeth Ivy Asoku and Kpone-Katamanso Municipal Health Directorate DDNS, Mrs. Emelia Mensah. There were also two (2) aspirants for the position of Regional Chairman who were given the opportunity to share their campaign messages with participants.

Two (2) members who requested for health support were presented with their cheques to support their treatment process. Members expressed their appreciation for the kind gesture from the noble association.

The annual general meeting and get-together was productive and ended successfully enhancing social interactions to foster unity and collaboration within the district.

GRNMA-GAR HOLDS EMERGENCY COUNCIL MEETING TO NOMINATE 1ST VICE CHAIRPERSON - 14/01/2026

The Greater Accra regional branch of the association today held an emergency council meeting to nominate a candidate to fill the 1st vice chairperson position.

In line with Constitutional provisions of the union, this was necessary to fill the position that became vacant as a result of the substantive 1st vice Chairman filing to contest the Regional Chairmanship position..

With Chairpersons and secretaries for all administrative districts partaking in the exercise, Ms. Kate Mensah Botchwey from the Weija-Gbawe district got confirmed as the 1st vice chairperson for the region, after beating her contender Mr. Coleman Anani-Jr Adator in a keen contest.

The region will converge again on 20th February 2026 to elect a substantive regional Chairman.

GRNMA-GAR HOLDS IT'S 4TH QUARTER COUNCIL MEETING. 18/12/2025

Yesterday at the regional secretariat,Zoti - Korle-bu, the regional council, which comprises of all Chairpersons and secretaries of all administrative districts of the association and the regional executive team, met for it's end of year deliberations.

Also joining the meeting was the Eastern Regional Chairman , Rev. Hayford Laryea, who was on a working visit.

The council also used the occasion to celebrate our reigning GAR best nurse/midwife 2025 Ms. Jane Ogeji Okere, who was recently crowned the 1st Runner up in the National best nurse/midwife award contest.

The event was also used to outdoor all aspirants who have filed for the regional chairmanship position.

On behalf of the regional council, we wish to thank all our cherished members who have stood with us throughout this year, and we are poised to keep fighting for your interest going into the new year.

Ms. JANET OGEJI OKERE ADJUDGED THE 1ST RUNNER UP AT THE 6TH GRNMA ANNUAL DINNER AND AWARD NIGHT - 13/12/2025

It was all glamorous as the best nurses/midwives from the 10 administrative regions of the association battled it out for the overall national honours.

With most key players in the nursing and health space gathered at the banquet hall of the prestigious Kempinski hotel, speakers took turns in acknowledging the giant strides that have been made in the nursing space over the past year, whiles also saluting the efforts of nurses and midwives across the country.
Also, gracing the ceremony as the special guest of honour was His royal highness Osagyefo Amoatia Oforipanyin, Paramount Chief of Akyem Abuakwa.

At the end of the ceremony, Ms. Janet Ogeji Okere, a midwife attached to the Shai-Osudoku district hospital and the reigning GAR best nurse/midwife, was adjudged the 1st Runner Up for the overall best national best nurse award.

Other winners from the Greater Accra region were:

Chief Supt. Marufatu Essie Briamah award - Ms. Theresah Sarfo-Bonsu (Ghana police hospital)

Mrs. Ruth Aku Gyan rural service award - Ms. Irene Sapomah Obeng

Another achievement chalked was our guesthouse being adjudged the 2nd runner up in the 2025 GRNMA best guesthouse awards.

The leadership of the GAR-GRNMA celebrates all our award winners. We are truly proud of them all, and we know that in the near future the ultimate crown will be for one of our dedicated GAR members.
