Salvation Army Development Office - Ghana

Salvation Army Development Office - Ghana The aim of the Salvation Army Health Care Programmes is to provide community members access to a range of primary healthcare services.

This is done by providing information regarding healthcare (including promotion, prevention & curative care), that is conducted in a culturally sensitive manner that promotes the well-being of individuals and the community at large. The Programmes include primary health care, laboratory services, home-based care, referrals, eye clinics at some centres and education on health issues such as family planning, maternal & child health, nutrition and HIV/AID’s prevention. All services effectively collaborate with other stakeholders to ensure quality primary health care and to strengthen network and referral systems. Rehabilitation Services
The Rehabilitation Programmes offer a holistic approach to the development and support of children and adults living with disabilities. Objectives
• To assist children and adults living with disabilities to achieve a better quality of life;
• The Programme providing inpatient services allow children from birth to the age of eighteen (18) years to thrive and grow spiritually, physically, socially and intellectually;
• To prevent escalation from the original impairment to a serious disability or handicap;
• To involve parents and families in the rehabilitation of children with disabilities so that they can understand the needs and potential of their children better;
• To provide orthopaedic and various therapeutic services to clients at the national, district and the community level;
• To provide integrated education through equal access to formal and informal education for children with disabilities;
• To advocate for people with disabilities to motivate the government and other policy makers to incorporate early intervention programmes into the framework of formal education or rehabilitation services.
