Monday Tips:

14. Although photochromic lenses may be good UV-absorbent lenses.
It takes a few minutes for it to adjust to different light conditions.

15. *Impact resistant.*
No lens is truly shatterproof. Plastic lenses are less likely to shatter upon impact than glass lenses.
Polycarbonate plastic is more impact resistant than regular plastic, but scratches easily so must have scratch-resistant coatings.

16. *CAUTION*
Intense light sources such as:
Arc welding, snowfields or gazing directly at the sun (even during a solar eclipse)
require special protection to prevent damage to the eyes, even the best sunglasses cannot protect your eyes from
these sources.

Thursday Tips:

11. *Mirror coatings.*
These thin layers of various metallic coatings can reduce the amount of visible light entering the eyes.
They are so much helpful in high-glare environments.
*UV protection, however, is not guaranteed.*

12. *Gradient Tint.*
These lenses are permanently shaded from top to bottom with variation of the percentage of tint.

13.
*Photochromic*/ *Transition*
This is a type of lens that automatically darkens in bright light and becomes lighter in low light.

Monday Tips:

6. Wraparounds
Wraparounds offer added protection.
Sunglasses that wrap around the temples prevent the sun’s rays from entering from the sides.
Some studies have shown that enough UV rays enter around standard sunglass frames to reduce the protective benefits of the lenses.

7. Sunglasses should screen out 75-90% of visible light.

9. TINT must be uniform.

10. *Polarized lenses* reflected glare—when sunlight bounces off smooth surfaces like pavement, containers or water.

Monday Tips:

3b. _COST AND COLOR_
The ability to block UV rays is not dependent on the darkness of the lens or the cost.

4. _MATERIAL_
Both plastic and glass lenses absorb some UV light, UV absorption is improved by adding certain chemicals to the lens material during manufacturing or by applying special lens coatings.

5._SELECTION 1_

Choose sunglasses that are labeled as blocking 99-100% of UV rays or
"UV absorption up to 400nm."

Thursday tips:
1. _UV RAYS_
*Long-term exposure to UV rays can damage the eye’s surface as well as its internal structures, sometimes contributing to cataracts (clouding of the lens) and macular degeneration (breakdown of the macula).*

2._RECOMMENDATION_
wearing sunglasses can help decrease the harmful UV rays that get to the eye.

3a. _THE PROBLEM_
The difficulty is that standards and labeling regarding UV protection are voluntary, not mandatory.
